I am not virgin to a death spiral anymore.
I haven't been flying for about 3 weeks and had to go today. Wind was 11mph but unpredictable in direction, force and gusty.
One time at landing... I was banking a corner and trying to lose altitude quickly to line up for short, fast and fast-approaching landing strip. I was conscious not to bank the plane to heavily in the wind but then out of nowhere a gust of wind spun the plane in a spiral dive no more than 50 feet above the ground. I let go of the controls to let plane stabilize, it did about 15 feet off the ground then full power and full up elevator. I swear I mowed the newly sprouting springtime grass.
No damage just a bit of shaky nerves at that landing. The landing did go good, by the way.
Now if I had meant to do this spiral dive thing it would've been mentionable.

Wayne,
Yes I hate it when it does that. Makes for some very exciting flying!!!

Wow, good save! I would probably have tried to fight it instead of letting go. Then I probably would have been cussing and picking up pieces!

Something like this happened to me on my third or fourth flight. Just managed to save it at the the end! Landed shortly after and was a bit shaky but plane intact. Talk about fun!
