Hi all, I'm pretty new here and had my super cub LP since Christmas. I just bought some new dubro 3" rubber Tyre's that are very heavy. I've checked the centre of gravity and that's still bang on everything is good, EXCEPT the plane won't land it just simply noses over. I've tried everything from taking of the aluminum wheel struts I've made and trimming them down so they don't rub, also pulled them out and put them on the other way that worked for a while but then the wheels fell off . So my question to you is, how do you attach the wheels to the stock shafts with out the plastic nuts because i broke them ;D any suggestions? Oh also it flys rather slow now so I'm thinking about going brushless and ailerons. Any suggestions on a good brushless motor that's not going to leave to big of a hole in my back pocket. Cheers Cameron

The CG doesn't change with the rubber wheels, but the mass does. You put more mass in the wheels. It takes more weight of the fuselage to keep from nosing over. Think of a small kid walking a large German Shepherd. The kid (fuselage) will have a hard time moving the dog (rubber wheels) under his own power. This is why you are nosing over. You may notice it flies a bit different because you are putting some weight below the aircraft. Think of the inflatable punching bags, with weight at the bottom. You can move the top easily, but the bottom stays mostly in place. It takes a lot of force to move the bottom. Your plane will be a bit sluggish on controls when it comes to changing attitude or direction. I know these things because I had those wheels. I suggest getting the dubro diamond lites if you want some bigger wheels, but want to avoid the weight. www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAZF5&P=FRShop around for a good price.

I fixed the problem. It was as Legot said they are too tight on the axles. I found to nuts that fit nicely and just soldered them on so they can't come on on the rough landings like they had before
Next step: Brushless and ailerons!

I put the Du-Bro 2 3/4" Diamond tread wheels/tires on my Super Cub using the Du-Bro 4-40 threaded couplers and nylon locknuts as Skivet48 did. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I also put a 1" tail wheel on it to keep it looking like an Alaska Bush Super Cub. Weight and COG issues are not a problem. ;D

I would suggest thread-locking these couplers on, as i have had them come off a week or so ago. I was just taking off and landing, over and over, pretty soon, last take off, coupler came off, wheel shot off and messed up my prop pretty badly. I changed out the coupler, thought it was just messed up, and it happened again a couple days later. No longer taking any chances and just thread-locking them. Just a heads up.

I'm curious. Did you get the idea for your gear from my mod? See hereIf so, there should have been either JB Weld or some sort of adhesive holding the coupler to the landing gear from the beginning. I just don't see the JB welded bond, if done properly breaking that easily. Has anyone else that used my mod, or something similar had the same problem?

I roughed up the axles a bit and used the JB Weld as you recommended to attach the couplers. I have had no problems at all. Could Krom be talking about threadlocking the Nylon locknuts to the couplers?
