OK well my maiden day was flawless except some extra wind. Second day wasn't as perfect but I did learn a lot.
1) Don't fly in too small an area. Being a newbie flying between trees to line up for landing can be difficult.
Today, feeling 'ballsie" after my great maiden day I tried to take off and land from an area that was just too small and fully surrounded by trees. On first take off I could not clear the trees in front of me and tried to thread the needle between a tree and a park sign, BONG I hit the sign with the left wing. Went over and no damage other than a small ding on the wing.
I back up and get more speed for take-off, clear trees and fly for a bit. Come to land and forgot to look behind me and almost missed the top of a tree but that almost got me and I hung the plane up in a 25 foot tall tree. Up the tree I go and knock it loose, thankfully no damage on impact .
2) Hand launching is easy! I was afraid to try this at first thinking I'd just crash my plane all to bits. Today ROG was difficult due to the thin layer of snow we had on the ground so I tried it and WOW it actually works. Anytime I have troubles or concerns about ROG take-offs I will not hesitate to toss her into the wind.
3) Wind is an enemy! I have not had a chance to fly in uder the ideal conditions yet. Maiden flight was in 9 mph winds, today it was 11 mph. I used half of my 5 batteries today fighting the wind.
So although I crashed today and hung in a tree I did learn some stuff and did get in a few good take-offs both thrown and ROG followed by at least three near perfect landings.
Hope to be flying again real soon.
