Picked up a bashed Super Cub LP for $40 the other day from a flying buddy of mine. He has flown the heck out of this thing and it looks like it. It came with a good supply of parts though. 3 spare props, floats, 3 lipo batteries, Parkzone lipo charger and a handful of mini/micro servos. The wing is flat. Im guessing he was going to add ailerons but after discovering the 5 wire servos gave up on it. The struts were hacked and the fuselage looks like Swiss cheese with all the mounting holes for bomb doors, lights and whatever else he decided to shove through the fuselage. I want to fix this plane up for other people to fly. I would like to get my brother and father introduced to flying. I think they will get a kick out of it like I do. So I plan to replace the wing, fix the paint, replace the cowl and generally sturdy it up for some "newb" flying.

I don't know what all he did with (to) it. It doesn't look like he cared much what it looked like thats for sure. I was embarrassed to walk home with it honestly. I stripped it down last night to start repairs. Its bad, but with a lot of time, and about another $40, I will have it airworthy again.

Well I did some patching on the fuse. I used spare pieces of Depron I had left over from another build and lots Of Gorilla Glue. The wing was glued on? Had to use a box cutter to get it off. The center and rear section of the wing saddle were crushed in and the front of the wing saddle was completely missing. THATS why the wing was glues on... So I cut a chunk out of the wing to use as a brace and glued it into the rear of the wing saddle. The rear where the wing rests was crushed and missing a bit of material so after building up the missing foam I attached a piece of credit card to it for strength. I also did the same on the saddle for the front of the wing. I decided since the tail was already black and white I would continue the theme and make it a police plane. After a bit of searching on the internet I have discovered there isn't really such a thing but that just takes all the pressure to "make it realistic" off if you ask me.

Welcome to the Super Cub bandwagon, vroom. Great deal on that stuff; specially the batteries. I'm so jealous ;D

I figured the floats and batteries were worth the $40. So even if I junked the plane it was fine with me. But even better for me the plane should fly just fine after a couple new parts and a lot of modifying and tinkering. I got the fuselage smoothed out and painted. I just have to wait for the LHS to get a cowl in and then I will pick up a wing too. They hope to have them in by the 10th but I will not be holding my breath. I also talked to one of my friends from work who seemed interested in planes but didn't have one. I told him about my new project and he said he would love to "test" it out for me. Shouldn't be long before he his hooked if I have my way. LOL Here are a couple fresh pics of the new and being improved police edition Super Cub...

Compared to what it was, Thats fantastic! Is the landing gear taller than the stock one? or is it just that you have no landing gear struts on it? If it's police and you need a new cowl, when you stop by the LHS you have a reason to get som big tires

You know, thats a good question. I have no idea if its stock or not. They feel very solid and aren't bent at all. I hear people complain about the stock ones and I just don't see myself complaining about these.
I had forgotten about the braces for the LG... I will have to find out how much those cost or just see about making some. I have some leftover Lexan from some RC truck bodies laying around. I will have to see what I can come up with.
Thanks for the compliment BTW!

She just needs a lil TLC. Thats what I was thinking. It didnt look like it had ever had any. :-) I got the wheel braces cut and painted. They look pretty good if I do say so myself. I ended up using a trusty old credit card again. Those things are almost as hands as popsicle sticks in this hobby. Well Im running out of little projects to do on this thing. I really just need to wait till cowls are in stock and pick one up along with a new wing. I cant even check my CG till I get a new wing. Rubber bands! I will need some of those too. Better make sure they are in stock tomorrow... How many do you use for this thing anyway?

4 rubber bands, and if your LHS has the landing gear,it includes the wheels , gear, screws, and skirts, for a little over $5.

Maybe I'm taking a chance but I have flown in calm and fairly heavy winds without any issues using two. I recently posted a video on my rubber band cover mod. It works great...so far. The lab work is still under observation. I'm happy that they are less visable while taking flight footage.

I had a problem with the plane the other night and I'm sure that there wasn't enough wing support due to me using two rubber bands. I'm not saying whats wrong or right or what does or doesn't...just that I am again using four.
