Gentlemen. I give you, the flying gimp. I thought you already had a nickname for it!!!! ;D All kidding aside..... What a great looking Cub. Can really tell you put a lot of time, effort and love in to your plane. That's apparent by just looking at the finished product. Awesome job!!!!!!!!! A ball gag on the cowl would really set it off.....Don't you think? Just kidding. Looking forward to hearing about your maiden flight! Skiv

A tidy looking cub indeed, well done Dillz. Not sure aboyut the nickname you gave me though, but in the spirit of it, here's a couple of observations: 1) How much heat does all the stuff within the body generate? I ask as you've covered the air release holes (on the strip underneath behind the battery box). You may want to check that it doesn't get to hot in there. I haven't noticed anything get hot, but there again I'm not sure i've put anything under much strain. As for the air release holes, on the strip underneath behind the battery box, is that the strip the floats plug into? If so, I have cut out the profilm there. The two holes closest to the battery box were already plugged with the silicone stuff that holds the plastic plate in when I got the plane. Are they the holes you're referring to, or is it something else?... Ah, you're talking about the three big holes that were in the panel I've covered in the yellow film with the hobbyzone sticker on it huh? Gee, I never considered that ventilation issue. Thanks for the feedback :-)

You may want to check that it doesn't get too hot in there. I actually wrote a paragraph on that and deleted it before submitting my previous post because i noticed the only thing in there that could generate some heat is the battery but it's located on the battery door and I'm sure it gets enough ventilation. The big hot components are the ESC and motor and those are in the front which gets plenty or air.

Yes Dillz I was referring to the three big holes. When I covered mine I didn't bother with them, then opened a couple up as an afterthought, as can be seen in the third picture on page 6. As Erwin stated the major heat generators are in the cowl so they are not of concern. I don't think it's a biggy, just wasn't sure if any of the additional electronics you've added would significantly contribute to the heat generated by the battery (are you using a separate one for you wing LEDS, via the JST connector or tapping off of a single pack?). Don't forget that servos also generate heat, not a lot admittedly, but they will contribute. Although there is way for heat to escape via the battery box door as Erwin mentions, there isn't other vent and hence little or no airflow. It's not guaranteed that air will circulate through the void from/to the battery box door or whether a pressure build up may occur. How significant either of these is, no one knows. I was really only pointing this out as something you might want to check before sending it skywards. Better to be safe than sorry, as the saying goes.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. When I take my maiden flight, I'll try to film it with an onboard camera, and from the ground. LOL, I like it!

ps sorry bout the minor hijack there Dill, couldnt resist! Eh, hijacking each others good ideas is what this forum is all about isn't it? I'm guilty as charged myself... ah that reminds me, I prob should have acknowledged NEcubflier in my vid, I did use his popsicle stick reinforcements for the battery box and wing saddle, and the vertical battery mount. I guess since his great mods are so famous he hardly needs the publicity :-) 3) I can't remember the name of the stuff, but you can buy rolls of "pinstripes" (various widths from 0.5mm to upto about 6mm on one roll). I think you'd finish off the covering job very nicely with a bit of this stuff (in yellow) stuck to the black either side of the side stripes. It's the stuff I did the red piping on mine and personally I think it sharpens up the whole package. Actually, in the instructions for the solartrim it says a way you can make your own pinstripes. Apparently you can take some wood or metal of the appropriate thickness and attach razor blades either side of it. You can then use those blades to cut out your pinstripes. I might give it a go :-) ...Still trying to come up with a name for my cub. I'm considering Enterprise and Voyager (cos I'm a real Trekkie at heart), but I wouldn't mind something more original, preferably something Australian. Any suggestions? (no, not the flying gimp!)

Just had my first test flight (if you call it a flight) - it did not go so well.
Two words. "elevator reversal"
I'll be replacing a firewall and a cowl before I go for my next flight, so I'm off to a great start!
Unfortunately, I've just discovered a problem with my ESC installation. I extended the ESC power wires to go all the way to the battery box, so I can't actually disconnect the ESC from the plane without unsoldering the battery connector. As those wires go through the hole in the firewall, it's going to make replacing the firewall somewhat difficult.
Some of us get all the luck eh?

One piece of advice. Triple check your control surfaces move in the correct direction before you attempt to get airborne first time. Me, I had the elevator reversed (schoolboy error I know) hence my avatar. My mate recently did the same with his Funjet. He's now nicknamed "Schoolboy". ;D Doh! Good to see you heeded my advice. Oh well, welcome to the club! ;D I used (and perhaps should have suggested) a couple of gold connectors on the extension wires, makes life a little easier if you do need to get the wiring or ESC out.
