I went with the Dave Brown 2 3/4" Treaded Light Flight wheels. Originally I was going to just use shrink wrap and put a 4-40 lock nut on. (like necubflyer) I found that I couldn't get the wheels to freely spin once I put the nuts on. Not wanting to grind the hub down I looked for something else. During a recent trip to a hobby store I had seen some DU-BRO 4-40 threaded couplers and decided to pick them up. I figured I could make something happen with them. I had to cut off a little bit of the axle to make the end of the coupler butt up to the bend. After I cut the axle to size I roughed up the metal with my dremel tool and used some JB Weld to attach them to the gear. I think it turned out well and the non threaded part of the coupler is the perfect size for hub. There is a 1/2" on threads showing after I put the lock nuts on. Haven't decided if I should cut the excess off or not. I couldn't take pictures with the gear on right now b/c the Cub is disassembled and under going mods and LI PO upgrade. I'll be posting more pics as I progress and finish up.

Awesome idea. Is the female side of those couplers threaded (I'm assuming not, since you used JB Weld)? I think it looks a little silly with that much thread still showing. I'd vote for cutting it off.

Like Jeremiah said "Awesome idea". My 3" Diamond lites I ordered off ebay arrived from the States today! Thats exactly 1 week USA to UK!
I will be popping to my LHS this week for a set of those couplers.
Thanks for the heads up Skivit!

No prob John, Glad I could post a successful mod. Yeah they aren't threaded on the female side, and I will be cutting of the excess thread jbess. After looking at them this morning it was apparent they would have to go. That should really finish it off. When I started I had ground the threads off the axle to make it slip on. That's when I found out I had to cut some off for it to fit more flush. You can skip the grinding and go ahead a cut off enough that you leave about a 1/2" of original axle on. The 1/2" is an approximate so better to leave too much on and cut more off than to leave it too short. I'll be doing the same to my uncle's Cub too. Will I still be able to take the nuts on and off (if needed) once I cut them down? Might be a stupid question. Skivit

Skivit I would have thought if you use a file to remove any damaged thread/burring, they would be fine (methinks back 27 yrs to when I did a year in an engineering training workshop when I left school). Hi Skiv, have ordered the couplers today. What size are the nylock nuts you have used?
Thanks, John

The nuts are 4-40, as shown on the package. Ok was abit confused by that cos I took it the 40 was the length in mm and 4mm thread seemed large looking at the pics. Thanks anyway, will seek out some 4-40 nylock nuts. Yours in blissed out ignorance, John

Yeah the 4-40 lock nuts I got were made by DU-BRO as well. Should also be able to get them at the hobby shop too. 4-40 is Imperial measurement. Sorry forgot to say that. Also found this pack of 100 of them. Might get this eventually, plus its a good price and free shipping. In the US I'm assuming. www.drillspot.com/products/413498/Approved_Vendor_1FB87_Hex_Locknut?s=1

JB Weld arrived today so I finally trimmed the original LG axle, got the couplers on, my lovely new Dubro 3" Diamond lites with the nyloc nuts & hacksawed off the excess thread. Very nice & very pleased.
A superb idea Skiv with the couplers and thanks again Jeremiah for the heads up on the wheels.......Pics later ;D ;D ;D ;D
John
PS My wheels appear to track in quite alot and did before I did this mod. Is this normal or a result of my previous crash when the LG detached itself from the fuse cos I hadnt pushed it in far enough?
