I know some of this was discussed in the thread about the camera, but I think this topic deserved it's own thread. I am having a hard time finding a place other than under the wing (between the fuselage and the strut clips) to mount this camera. It's small enough, I should be able to mount it anywhere. But what's killing the deal is the vibrations the camera gets in flight. It totally ruins the video. Watch the takeoffs and cruise flight in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tCqCwJhzKsI have tried different placements on the tail section, and right behind the wing. I am using industrial strength velcro. I have tried using the cosmetic sponges my wife uses for her foundation as a vibration buffer in various thicknesses but it doesn't help. I thought it could be my prop is out of balance, and might be something I should consider. What suggestions do you have for mounting with the least video distortion? I would like a downward pointing video (birds eye), and possible a rear view over the horizontal stabilizer.

Ive tried many different mounting methods & have found the best to be 'directly' into the plane, no velco.
Everytime ive used velcro or 'rubber' pads etc i get image distortion. Cut a hole into the plane or make a foam 'holder' & the recordings are alot more stable.
Im guessing velcro allows the camera to move & vibrate enough to distort the image.

Thanks Badlands, have you got any pics to show examples?

why not simply try packing tape and see if that helps? It holds our planes together, so I suspect it will hold your camera.

I've connected a keychain camera to a spare battery door. I'll post pics and a demo vid sometime in the next couple of days :-)

I have the 808 #11 that I bought from Amazon for just less than a tenner. Mounted it in the region of the rear float attachment plate using a spare wing rubber band and a small piece of styrofoam at the front end to angle the camera down a little bit - more than a couple of mm results in a view that is airsick inducing as it lacks perspective I feel. The camera was mounted inverted so I could get at the buttons and the vid was turned right side up during editing. Only problem is the accursed date time stamp being upside down and showing the wrong date. www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2mPgh9-R-g

Excellent vid hounddog, love those cooling towers near the beginning. I tried my 808 keyfob for the first time yesterday. Mounted it on top of the wing and held by the wingband. I'd seen a similarly mounted vid on YouTube which looked great as the tail gave a nice sense of perspective. Unfortunately, mine was rubbish by comparison as the wing filled much of the frame so I guess I should have angled it pointing higher. Also suffered from vibration. (Logic tells me that a 'soft' mount would dampen vibes best but it seems from what I've read on here that mounting it 'hard' to the airframe is best.) I think I may try mounting under the fuz next time. Or I may try a different camera (Flip Mino, see separate thread). It's all good fun!

Mounted mine on the rear mount for the floats. Found that balancing the prop got rid of wavy video. Camera also needs to be solid mounted. Mine is velcroed then tied down with twist tie. m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=%252F#

An older thread, but I'll add this for a camera mount idea or two for the 808 key chain or spy cams when added to the Super Cub. My preference is my Mobius action cam, so I have not done much to piddling around with my two 808 cameras when it comes to adapting them to my new Cub. The vibration problem can actually be caused by a multitude of different things, but adding a small faucet washer that the camera can be tightened to may be of help in the reduction of such. This entire set up can easily be moved about to re-position the camera to various areas, as the swivel ball-head does that. It is a cheapie ball head, so be careful in over tightening he thing to lock the swivel ball into place. The bolt for the ball head is not a 1/4" bolt, so I am not sure what size it actually is for a nut and all. The bolt to the camera is a 1/4 X 20" stock tripod bolt. Look at the last few photos at this flickr link and it may give you some ideas for mounting an 808 camera to your Cub. Don't forget to check out the weight of each part and the CoG when it is all hooked to the plane. www.flickr.com/photos/a1930ford/sets/72157635023215356/I am chronically updating the flickr sets, so please check back periodically to see what is added.
