My friend recently bought one of those small co-axial choppers and got me so jealous I decided its time to get a plane!
So we both went to the hobby shop and he walked out with a big lama co-axial and I walked out with a Super Cub LP!
I've had a plane before, but it was a second hand purchase (so required some work) and it was nitro, so I needed to fly at a club, so just never got around to it. The super cub changed all that.
I had about six very short, more or less incident free flights in the last 3 weeks up until this morning when I completely drained my Lipo for the first time ;D Not sure of my total flying time, but I'm guessing must have been upwards of 30 minutes this morning!
I've been focusing on basic flying and practicing my approaches and landings, did about 7 rolling take-offs and landings this morning. 2 of which were near perfect, 2 were ok, but off target, and 2 were botched (plane landed and went nose in). Until finally, the plane did a low voltage cut off and I landed it in the distance.
Now my first question is, what are the normal flying characteristics of the plane? I suspect my center of gravity might be too far back, because the plane wants to climb, even on 1/3 throttle, especially into the wind. Is this normal? At what percentage of the throttle should the plane level out and stop climbing?
The super cub really practically flies itself! However, the difficult part for me is the throttle control! I find it really hard to do small adjustments on the standard Hobbyzone remote. I'm seriously considering buying a Spektrum Dx7 as a future upgrade which should help, I hope. Do you guys think this is a good option? I'm pretty sure I'll want to get serious with this hobby, so I want something that'll last me a few years!
