Hey gang,
I was out at a family picnic yesterday, and took my plane for a flight to show all my little cousins how cool it was. Just as I was coming in to land, I made a SLIGHT miscalculation. I thought the plane was in front of the tree, but it was actually about 5m behind it. When I went to bring it down to land, SMACK, straight into a 10meter pine tree!

Would NEVER happen in NA, where the FD comes and saves an RC plane......? 911? fire? police? '...no my sc is in a tree...'

How great was that? Oh man, fantastic! Am guessing it happened this past weekend, not too much damage so should be flying by Wed? Thanks for sharing the video.

The people across the road saw suggested I go the the firestation around the corner and ask them nicely if they could help out, they even gave me a lift there in their car! When I told the guy at the station how high up it was he said his engines couldn't reach it, but he ended calling a skylift unit from another suburb and asked if they could do it.
One of the fireman there said they didn't mind doing stuff like that when there's nothing else to do, if they weren't doing that they'd probably just be sitting on their butts at the station playing Wii anyway. One of the fireman actually said "we'd rather be doing this than getting a cat out of a tree". He also said their status was also officially "on patrol", so they could still be called out if they had any real work to do.
The tail is a bit dented, I don't think it really needs to be replaced but I'll order a replacement anyway. The cowl came back more dented than I've ever seen it before, but thanks to the packing tape reinforcements it didn't break at all. Wing struts, OK. Landing gear, snapped the cable ties holding the landing gear to my aluminium struts. Fuselage and wings completely untouched, protected by all the tape. The master airscrew 9x7 prop is still fine too, despite the fact it was spinning when it hit the tree.
I think my cub must have 9 lives. Or HAD anyway...

Did the same thing yesterday!  Now, mind you, I have flown over this same tree hundreds and hundreds of times in the past six yrs. This time, the 55' plane eater reached out and grabbed my poor little SC!  Good thing I have a close friend who runs a tree trimming company!  Plane and tree will make a complete recovery... We used to have 2 large trees at the entrance between the parking lot and the soccer field/flying area. Folks would often use the paved lot to take off and then fly the plane into the soccer area. I climbed those trees due to depth perception mistakes 3x before I learned to stay WAY away from them.
A buddy made the mistake but got his caught way up top, mine were pretty low. He's a Comcast (cable TV) installer. He phoned in and there was a guy nearby working. He brought the cherry picker truck down and they plucked it out. Like yourself, this is not service you can count on.

LMAO!!! I've not seen this before. Thats hilarious, just got me to thinking, couldnt you have got the local police search helicopter out with their thermal imaging cams last time you lost your cub, Im sure it would have been giving out a heat signature for a while after it landed! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Dill please whatever you decide to get next PLEEEEEEEEEEASE get another cub too!

yeah, don't you worry mate. I was getting into misadventures with my cub WAY before the latest 'incident'. After that last one, I hope to god the worst is behind me. I was tidying up the shed today, and came across all my supercub spare parts and made up a bit of an inventory. I have a brand new stock receiver and servos, but need a motor and gearbox (thirty aussie dollars). I also have a cowl, landing gear, pushrods and a few spinners and control horns. I basically have all the insides of the plane, but none of the outsides  While it would be good to save money on the receiver, transmitter and servos, I'm not too keen to throw thirty bucks into the crappy stock motor when I could spend less on a nice brushless from headsuprc. The 6-ch hobbyking radio is only $30, and the servos are like $3 each, so I'm still leaning towards upgrading to cheap HK (HobbyKing/HongKong, same diff) parts. So many decisions still to be made  |

Hi Dillzio. I have a motor and gearbox. The gearbox has a repaired crack and the motor needs the brass looking bearing. If I remember correctly this motor was working fine before the bearing got misplaced. It might be useful if you still have your old motor to cannibalise. Its been sitting in a box for a couple of years. Yours for free. No offence taken if you do not want it.  bearing missing.  Two screws needed to attach motor to gearbox.  Cracked , but repaired with ca, good as new.  |
