GP FlightFex Yak 55

Here is my newest addition to my growing hanger. It is a Great Planes Flight Flex Yak 55. This is a great plane for learning 3d as it can take a lot of abuse and keep on going. I just got the finishing touches on it this morning and hopefully will get a chance to maiden it later this week. I set it up a little stronger than recommended by manufacture as I am anticipating many crashes. I am running a BL motor, 2 hs-55’s for ailerons, hs-65mg for rudder, and hs-65hb for elevator.
I also just got a new Futaba 7cap computer radio. I’ll be using that for this plane, my avistar, and soon my super cub as well. This is my first computer radio so lots of exciting learning ahead.

Very cool. I've been looking at the same one. Where did you get yours?

What type of hinge system does it use?

And finally, would this motor work with it (and what size prop?)

I ordered mine from Tower.

I am using a Walkera BL motor Part # wk-ws-20-002. It is a perfect drop in for the stock gear box. I'll try and find you a link. I am also using GWS 10x4.7 props.

You can use standard micro servos all the way around the plane but from what i've heard it's a real good idea to have at least a MG in the rudder.

Oh....And the plastic z-bends it comes with are horrible. I used a mod that I got from mrmugen. I'll let you know what I did if you want.

yeah I had the same z-bends on my rc universe bipe. They suck!
I just put a Z in some wire and used it.

If I get one I would mod it to fit an outrunner. Do you think that the one in my previous post would work?

Yea i forgot about you saying that about your bipe. I broke two of those plastic z bends trying to install them

Yea that is the motor. You can probably get a good deal on ebay. I'm not sure if that outrunner would work or not. Definetly can't hurt to try. You could always use it for something else if it doesn't work.

Well I finally got to maiden the yak! It flew great. I programmed the high and low rates into my new computer radio with the throws that the manual suggest and wow high rates really makes this plane aerobatic. I can’t wait for a calm day to start practicing hovering. Anyone considering getting into 3d I highly suggest this plane to start with. Lots of fun.
