Hey has onyone out there had any experience with this plane? My wife thought she would suprise me for my b-day last week and got me one from Nitro Planes for $79.99. I have it put together but havent flown it yet and its a nice looking plane but I havent got the heart to tell her all the things I have read about it on other sites. Is what I read about it true?http://www.nitroplanes.com/new204chathi1.html

My bud has one, it's way underpowered. Run a lipo in it and you might have a chance getting it up in the air.

In general cheap planes from BananaHobby or Nitro (same outfit) are a short path to frustration.
Slick marketing, BS information (One of the best ducted fan jet in the market!, Super tough, lightweight airframe!, Shock Resistant Reinforced Fuselage and Strong Wings). That means it probably is grossly underpowered, is fragile and breaks easily.
If it's a BD present you probably have to suck it up. Do your homework before you even try to fly it. The A-10 is not known for being user friendly.

3 things I noticed: 1. His is BRUSHLESS. It obviously has WAY more power than the brushed/NiMh will have. This is NOT a new flier plane in either trim. 2. He has 2 bad landings. This is from a very experienced flier. Not user friendly One breaks out the poorly glued in landing gear. The other one breaks the tail assembly badly. 'Super Tough' ----right. 3. Poor sink rate-a big part of the landing problem. Looks like a VERY touchy elevator too. That needs to be toned down or put on serious Expo. EDF are just a tiny prop in a can. The make a cool noise or a gawd awful racket depending on your point of view. They are pretty inefficient > they are hell on batteries. This is probably a better video. Read the comments below about the brushed unit. A-10 Thunderbolt II RC Ducted Fan Brushed www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeUNFb04C4w&feature=related

Thanks guys. I have been thinking about switching to lipo before I even attempt to get it in the air. Most of the problems I have read about are the motors being underpowered but I just wonder with it being such a fragile plane if its even worth upgrading to brushless. Maybe I should just have some fun with it until it breaks and add the parts to my growing graveyard.

I'd throw a lipo at it. The stock 8.4v/650 is a stupid, pathetic battery for this application. Even the old Cub NiMh would be way better. Use it to break in the motors while taxiing around a bit.
The 400 on lipo can take it, for awhile anyway, and actually isn't too bad, kind of like the brushed Cub on lipo.
If you go brushless you'll need 2 motors and 2 new ESC suitable for that application, not to mention the lipos to handle it. Frankly a decent upgrade would double the price or more.
Check EVERYTHING 2x, expect it to be set up poorly. Brand new treat it like it was in a bad crash and all parts need to be looked over carefully.
If you need to use their TX so don't have expo turn that elevator down a bit-too much movement.
