During my extended time grounded while I wait for my new ESC, I've been doing a lot of work on my plane. I've adapted a prop saver and some props to suit, made a nice little reinforceing nut for my spinner from a 1/4 inch adapter, and reinforced the struts on my landing gear with aluminum from a coke can. I like these struts because they definitely make the landing gear stiffer, but still has a substantial amount of flex to adsorb the force from some of the rougher landings I'll no doubt be making. I've also done the popsicle stick/epoxy reinforcement to my battery box. I took off the original struts, and made a paper template. I then copied the template on to some aluminium from a coke can, and cut it out a bit smaller, so the edges of the coke can won't protrude beyond the edges of the original struts. I bent the aluminium with a ruler to match the original struts, and connected them together with two rivets. I then added some araldyte/epoxy to the bottom. I also squashed down the rivets with vice-grips, filed them down a bit, then covered the rivets in epoxy to cover the sharp edges. I put a hole in the struts and tied them to the landing gear with some 120lb fishing line. It's a very cheap mod, and only takes an hour or so to do. I still need to trim a bit off the bottom of the struts, to prevent them from being able to rub the wheels. Here's the pics:

I did this mod last night and it works nicely! instead of regular bolts, I used the bolts from an old erector set I had in my closet.

Glad it's worked well for you :-)
I'm actually going strutless at the moment. They got pretty haggered after a few rough landings, and I ended up just taking them off. It makes it MUCH easier to remove the landing gear, bend it straight and get the plane back up in the air again. Since removing the struts I also get far fewer nose-overs.
I have some new landing gear sitting there waiting to go on, and another pair of the coke-can struts I made last time, but I'm going to wait until this landing gear has used up all the life it's got in it before I put the new one in.
