To make a long story short (kinda) the throttle lever on my radio snapped off 2 weeks ago. I called Horizon and they agreed to send me a new 1 Free of Charge!! So- no flying until it arrived I've been getting a little bored with the Stock set up anyway so, why not make a few mod's while I'm grounded!! My SC now sports a Turnigy 35-36b 1300kv (too much motor, I know) with a 40A ESC and Ailerons! It's teamed up with a Spektrum DX6I and MAN does she scoot!! In hind sight, I probably shudda taken baby steps with the upgrades but, Oh Well! My question is about mixing. I remember reading (somewhere) about mixing a little Rudder (or was it Elevator) in with your Ailerons, but it never said whether it was Pos. or Neg. throw. Do you want a little rudder towards the roll (turn) or away from it? This plane is blast to fly now and since it's my first aileron plane there was a "pucker factor" of about 9 when I took her for the Maiden today!

Opposite rudder will help keep your altitude up - not as big of an issue with the Cub as with other planes. I can't remember how much I have mixed in - 10-20%? Anyway make a mix and put it on a switch so you can try it at altitude, and turn it off it need be.

Thanks, that's what I thought but I wasn't 100% sure! Like you say, it won't make a whole lot of difference on the Cub but I'd like it anyway (have to justify spending the money on the DX6I) I have another plane that I'm TRYING to gain enough stick time b-4 I attempt to fly it!

Here's a dumb question from a newbie: I have an old Hitec laser 4ch radio, and updated my SC to a DX6i receiver, it works great. My right stick is currently rudder and elevator, left is of course throttle. Would ailerons be setup so they're controlled by moving the throttle stick left and right?

Ailerons become R/L turn so move to the rudder position on the RX. The rudder, if used, moves to the L stick. For the states R/L is always the R stick.

My question is about mixing. I remember reading (somewhere) about mixing a little Rudder (or was it Elevator) in with your Ailerons, but it never said whether it was Pos. or Neg. throw. Do you want a little rudder towards the roll (turn) or away from it? According to my experience in simulators, applying rudder during an aileron induced turn will make the aircraft turn more sharply, and nose down. To compensate for nosing down, the pilot must pull up more, which will in turn make the aircraft turn more sharply because you are pulling up whilst the aircraft is banking into the turn. I also read of a maneuver called a "skid" where the aircraft (while under fire) banks one way (to make it appear they are moving in that direction) and applying opposite rudder (to cause them to keep going straight, and loose speed)

Anyone want to walk me thru the steps to add some rudder to my ailerons? I'm new to the dx6i and the manual leaves a bit to be desired.

Near as I can tell ALL the manuals for ALL the TX leave a lot to be desired.

I would suggest a lot of trial and error. It's the only way you can know for sure that it's going to work properly anyway.
See if you can find a setting for channel mixing, the different channels should be numbered. Figure out which number your rudder is on, which number your ailerons are on, and set the rudder channel to mirror the aileron channel by whatever percent you want. Whether you want it set + or - is best found out by trying it out to see what happens. Make sure it all works like you want it to on the bench before you give it in the air.
I take it you're adding some opposite rudder to help you to keep altitude when banking?

Yeah, I managed to add it on the TX but haven't flown since. Have it on a switch, will try when it's up a bit to give me some error room if I mucked it up.
On a separate note, has anyone messed with differential on their ailerons? I still have the original dihedral in the wing.
