This is the first time I can honestly say it wasn't pilot error.
I had just taken off on my third 8 cell pack of the morning. As i was climbing out I began a slow right turn to get over the field. I'd already done this maneuver 4 times this morning. and the cub handled it easily, even in the breeze.
The last time, it was about 30 feet up, and climbing gradually.( no where near stall). it suddenly turned hard right, and spiraled in full throttle.
The stupid thing is I know exactly what the problem is and I had it fixed for the last 7-8 flights. A while back I had a glitch in the rudder servo connector. It would glitch under vibration and give hard right rudder. I had retouched the soldered joints and reseated the connector. Everything was fine through a bunch of flights and bench tests. Until this morning.
Believe it or not. The only damage is the broken fuselage, even the landing gear didn't tweak. The motor turns fine and the cowl and motormount are intact.
I'll be buying a new servo soon.
Oh well here we go again.
This one didn't make me happy. It was a stupid mistake. Before I took off, ( which was beautifully predictable BTW) I looked at the trim knobs and saw they were centered, never clicking on the fact that the trims are digital, and always look centered.
The aileron trim was about 10 beeps right. I couldn't click fast enough to get it back to center in time to prevent the stall. Biggest mistake was taking my thumb off the stick to try. From 30 feet up full throttle, the dirt is pretty soft, but pretty much broke everything made out of foam.
