After breaking the throttle on my stock tx, I made a quick call to hobbyzone and they sent me a new one. great customer service considering ive owned it for eight months, my only complaint is that the guy specifically told me the new tx was upgraded with a better throttle slider...BS!! so now im worried that i will break it again and they wont warranty it. I really need to upgrade the electronics, but still use stock batts and motor. so my question is, what 4 channel radio system (tx,rx, esc, lvc, and servos combo in one package) will work? I looked at the futaba 4yf system, but it says the rx is rated at six volts. I would like to find something around that price range, or maybe about $150

www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRXF4**&P=0This radio will be much better for the extra few bucks. It will allow you to set endpoints, flaps, flaperons, v tail, elevons, dual rates (a must on most aircraft), exponentials (very awesome feature), and many more good things. In my opinion no one should buy a non pc radio anymore. They just aren't worth the money for what you get ina pc radio now a day. Now you would need servo's too. I recommend the Hitec hs55's. They are cheap and work great for the SC. An esc for brushed with a LVC is gonna be hard to find (at least one with a good lvc for lipo). If just using stock batts than I would go for the gws 480 esc. www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHVA2&P=7Hope this helps some, Kevin

I'm with Kevin. A lower end RX is a dead end, only to be replaced yet again. If you want to go that route you can pick up used ones for little. And, you are worried about a possiblility that may never happen. I've got 3 PZ TX and never broken a throttle. If you do it's only $30 without warranty. Stock electronics are fine for a stock Cub most of the time. Generally problems are with the operator, not the equipment. That said, new stuff is WAY nicer and control is considerably improved.
Gut it and do it right, or use as is, save your pennies, and upgrade to a better entire system.

Whole heartedly agree with the entirety of Flydiver's statement. I saw on someone's signature the following statement/question, "Why do I never have enough time to do it right but always enough time to do it over" Now you can remove the word time and replace it nicely with money. As I just explained to a pal who is wanting to upgrade his flying experience the plane is only the investment's down-payment. Now I am sure many people have flown their stock SC's for many hours and replaced many brushed motors but when the bug bites it's time to upgrade. Wayne

I looked at the futaba 4yf system, but it says the rx is rated at six volts ALL RX are rated at 6v. That's what the ESC does, pulls the operating voltage DOWN to RX and servo 5-6v operating level. The Cub is doing it also. They just don't tell you squat about what is going on operationally with the plane. Depending on your perspective that is either very smart or woefully inadequate.

Thanks guys for the great advice. I dont want to upgrade to brushless yet because I have a spare motor and five stock batts. After thinking about it you are right about spending the extra money on a better tx. Looks like Ill just stick with the cubs tx for now. I did chop the throttle a little hard to save a prop when the slider broke. Id like to find a way to fix it though. From what i read this can be done with a 10k ohm potentiometer? It wouldnt be too bad to have a rotary speed control in the slanted area above the original throttle. At least my replacement tx works great. ;D

Take a look around this forum. Everybody dumps the electrics after awhile. There is a mess of PZ TX laying around. If you are really paranoid start looking for a replacement, cheap.
The next level is start looking for a cheap 4 channel. I picked one up pretty easily for $25 with an RX. You can get decent 6 ch. computer radios for $50-60 and d**n good ones for $80-100. But, you have to do some homework so you know what is decent and what is not worth the bother. Like some folks get a DX5 Spectrum because it seems like a cheap Spectrum. It is, as in a dead end, one plane TX. Tne old DX6 is a dead end. Most 4 channel TX have no model memory and a dead end.
Remember you can go lipo without changing anything but the prop but if you change even one tiny electronic you have to gut it and change everything. There are some pretty good people that have stopped recommending the Cub because of this. It's a point worth considering. Their proprietary electrics are a pain.
