Ok, so a friend just gave me his old copy of Real Flight G4. Only problem is he lost the controller that came with the simulator. Now, I have a Dx6i that I would love to use for practice with Real Flight. I see that they may make an adapter, but I'm getting a bit confused on how this can work as I google for solutions. I found this walk through: ironcreek.net/dx6i/plane.php But it explains that you need the interlink controller to them connect to you're Tx?? Then I found this adapter on the Spektrum website, www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM1800It says it works wirelessly, but the connector in the picture looks like the trainer connection to the back of the controller? So how does it connect to your computer? So is there an easy solution adapter to connect my DX6i for use with Real Flight? Thanx!

There is a huge help file/forum on Real Flight. From what I understand the program is dependent on the Interlink system to run. If that component is lost I think you are out of luck.
So, how do you lose that critical part?

When I asked if I could have it he found the software with his other games but somehow lost the controller.

you need to have the realfligh controller to use your own controller, the game is locked to it and needs it to be connected to work.
there is emulator program that will allow you to run the game with out the controller if you want to use your own. but you will have to do some searching for it as its not exactly legal.

Yeah from some quick browsing around that forum over at RealFlight I'm seeing that the Interlink is a dongle... honestly I think its pretty stupid. Why should I be forced to buy their controller? Pretty dumb
Nothing I've ever seen with playing with the software before said I needed the controller, I've been playing with the keyboard before.

i imagine they force you to use their controller because it is very easy to pirate software, but when your forced to use hardware from the manufacture to use the pirated software it makes it alot more difficult. big pain when you lose the controller or break it though. there is an dongle emulator program out there that will allow you to use the trainer port usb adapter, its not perfect but it will work.

Unless your going to take your keyboard down to your flying site. If you want a sim that can be used with your keyboard I'm sure there are plenty out there that can be downloaded for free. I use a XTR Reflex sim. Without the dongle it's useless. It plugs into the usb of the computer and then the cable from the dongle (which has to be matched to your TX) plugs into the trainer port of your TX.

I was just using the keyboard to test the program, I have my DX6i now and want to use that of course for practice.

that first adapter is for FS one, not realflight. i own FSone and understand that they endorse JR and Spectrum while realflight will only run with futaba. im sure there are some chinese-made adapters out there but the system wasnt designed to work with other controllers and your success might be short-lived, if at all

ya that just looks like a usb with some type of converter and a futaba 6 pin on the end. not sure if whatever chemistry they have in the circuitry will run you right but no harm in giving it a try...saves buying a new tx

I have just looked up the G4 sim. As I understand it, If you want to use your DX6 and it is compatible, you would have to link your TX with a cable to the G4 TX through the buddy lead port. Now, if your mate has lost the Realflight TX then that is not going to happen.
