Its been cold. Real cold, for weeks. Highs around -20C and sometimes as low as -35C. This weekend the advertised high is +13C. I'm pumped, I get to maiden the newly rebuilt cub, the newly rebuilt Phantom, and the brand new Corsair. I have all my packs charged up, the planes have all been checked out, the Corsair has the necessary mods, and everything looks good to go. Except for one niggly little problem. At sunrise this morning winds are gusting to 30 Kph. a little too breezy for me, I haven't flown since November. I've never flown the Phantom or the corsair. don't want to risk smashing something up. I'm frustrated, very frustrated. Aw crap, maybe I'll pick up some new rotor blades so I can smash my heli into the walls a few times.

Tell me about it... I have a half-dozen models ready to fly, and 10 more very close to ready. No flying since November, cabin fever setting in, little voice in one ear "Take a chance!", little voice in the other "Be patient, summer IS coming!".
So I did some drywalling, dust everywhere....

I managed to get in 2 flights Sunday morning, it was still too windy, and almost lost the phantom but I did get to fly. Even the SC had a real hard time in the wind.
The Corsair sat in the hangar. Too windy for a maiden on that one

Hi Duck,
I am in Prince George and we had a beatuiful weekend with sunny skies and no wind so I got out for about 6 packs worth.
I have been flying almost every week throughout the winter. At -20C I usually only get one flight before my hands are numb so I have to go into the truck and warm up before the next one.
You probably get a bit more wind than we do so that makes it difficult to get out.

I just looked at the Environment Canada website that ranks cities in different weather categories.
Under the "Windiest Winter" Category Prince George is 73 out of 82 Edmonton is 69 out of 82
We are actually both not that windy when compared to other cities.
It sure seems like it is Windy, especailly when you have some free time to fly

What really gets me. When I look at the wind indicator on the neighbors roof its not moving, and when I get to the field its blowing to beat heck. Really getting tired of going to work in the dark at going home as it gets dark. IF I could find a calm day, I'D still have to sneak out early to fly. Soon, I will be able to fl;y afterwork for a little bit, if the field is empty.
I need a different field. somewhere in the middle of town instead of the edge.

OK, This just irks me. $25.00 CAD for the Evolution (Horizon Hobby) blade balancer, that doesn't fit my blades, AND IS OUT OF BALANCE. I'd take it back, but I still need a balancer, and they'd probably give me another out of balance unit off the shelf anyway. I'll mod this one to work, and balance it properly.

i ues the $2-4 durbo or great planes finer tip balancer, works great and is very small, just dont leave it in your pocket, it WILL stab you in the leg.
for heli blades i get an extra blade grip set and use the ball links and do it the same way.
