I just upgradded to a DX6i transmitter (after my stock receiver packed it in). I put everything together and went out for a flight and crashed about 10 times. (luckily there was 2 ft of snoW for cushionung).
I had a terrible drift to the left and could not keep it straight even with a hard right rudder on all the time. After tweaking and modifying the trim I could fly it but still only with lots of right trim. Any ideas why it might be drift so much after upgrading?
I found that after flying the stock transmitter it was difficult to use the throttle and rudder on the left stick so I switched the rudder to the right stick with the elevator and that was much easier. What do most people with DX6i fly with for the ruuder (right or left stick) I have no ailerons yet.

If your control surfaces are straight and your trims are centered (look at those carefully first) you should be looking for lateral imbalance, twisting, or warping of flying surfaces.
It is conventional to have your PRIMARY R/L control on the right. If all you have is rudder, then the rudder goes in the aileron channel-the R channel. If you DO have ailerons they go R, THEN rudder ends up on the L.
You'd have a he!! of a time transitioning straight from L control to R control right off the bat. I would be back to newbie time! Ouch.

I set my rudder to the R side for my non aileron Cub. Since you use the rudder to turn the (stock) Cub, I think it should be on the R side.
As far as your trim, Spektrum should have fixed everything LOL (old joke). Just go back and center the trim and sub trim, the adjust the clevis until the rudder and elev are centered. Turn your gear on and move them around, then recheck. Also rebind before you fly.

DX6's have had problems with the trim switchs. They will bend after awhile and become inactive. I've already replaced 3 switchs on my radio, and fixed one other. The little paddles on the switch bend and then dont apply pressure to the digital switchs , so you have no trim. If the radio doesnt beep when you push them, they are shot.
Fly it low !!

Thanks for the advice. Once the wind dies down I will try it again.
I have been adjusting the sub trim first to center the servos and doing minor adjustments with my trim tabs.
I have flown it probably 200 times with the stock radio and have never had a drifitng proplem that i could not fix with a trim adjustment so thta is why this seems so odd.
I did notice that when I was driving back home after flying the rudder seemed to have moved again after I had done all the settings.
Why would I have to Bind it again?
Should I leave all the servos attached when binding?
Thanks

Why would I have to Bind it again? Should I leave all the servos attached when binding? Thanks Rob You shouldn't have to. I just would. Also, every time I hook up a battery I make sure that the light on the RX is steady on - peek under the wing. I found that sometime arching from connecting the battery makes the RX flash. If that happens, unplug the battery and turn off the TX and try again. I recently started plugging the negative part of the Deans first - tipping it in - that seems to help a lot. Yes have the servos and everything else hooked up. Ellis

Make sure not to hold the radio too firmly or twist the case at all while flying. Many radios reset themselves while doing this. My LHS sent over a dozen of them back with this issue. Just a heads up. You might want to test to see if this happens to yours while it is on the ground. I watched 2 real nice planes become firewood because of this problem.

Maybe I'm weird but my DX6i has been perfect with no, zero, nada problems. The only non-related problem is the loose nut operating the controls.

Where do you leave your esc power button?
I have mine in the battery box right now and I have to turn it on everytime I power up the batteries. It would be nice if it it always came on on when the battery was connected so that I could hide the wires in the fuselage.
Do any of you adjust the travel adjustment in the menus settings for the servos and if so what settings for the elev and rudder. ithink they default at 100%. If I increase this above 100% will I get more travel distance on the servos?
Thanks

I don't have a power button. I would think you could just unplug it.? I have some of the travel adj. at 125% and some at 100% - flaps and ailerons are at 125%, can't remember why now. I don't know how you can get a 125% out of a servo, but I sure I'm missing something. Also the closer in on the control horn and the farther out on the servo arm, gets you more throw. Set up dual rates also in case it's too much - use low rate until you have plenty of altitude.
