Parma Fas-Paints with a coating of wattyl waterbased clear urethane (for wooden indoor furniture) thanks very much to Raz for the tips on urethane. i applied about 3 coats and it works extremely well and was only $14 for 500ml from a plaint supplier that sells dented tins. the furniture clear seems to be almost identical to parma's faskoat. may i suggest anyone else who uses printed images on their plane airbrush on some fas-koat or other sealant over the image BEFORE using the urethane because the brushed on urethane tends to smudge the image a little also, if your doing a line from the fuselage to the rudder i suggest fitting rudder (no elevator) to the body and flowing the line properly. i merely judged the start of the stripe on the tail and the curve change between the fuse + tail is not the best /drum roll

after googling "piper cub" images to get some ideas i come across this image and decided to enlarge the scheme i was using and then use a brighter green and combine it with the boxing kangaroo to make it an aussie theme. a bit of further googling for a south aussie aircraft registration number i found this little gem. adelaide biplanes quote:Piper PA-18 150 Super Cub VH-FHCOur Cub is a 1975 model aeroplane which has had only one previous owner in her 30 year life, she lived at Latrobe Valley airport in Victoria and was still being flown by her 86 year old lady owner until we bought her in June 2004. She has a total time in service of just about 1700 hours so has not been overworked / end quote so i decided my south aussie cub could borrow their rego # for added scale realism LOL

oblivion Did good! That is a good looking plane. Really nice finish and I like the wavey gold line, did you use any kind of template or just paint freehand? I have a hard enough time drawing a straight line, much less painting one so painting a wave like that is way out of the park for me.

sounds silly, but i used that image i posted above and zoomed in until it was about life-size when compared against my cub.
i then traced directly off the monitor to get part of the template on A4 and traced it back onto my plane.
all you really need do is make a design for one side of the plane on A4, and then flip the page over and you have a template for the other side which will be identical so the whole design is symetrical.

thank you kind sir! i gotta say, i love this urethane idea that i got from Raz. you can bang your cub around and even break the wing tip off a few " in, and you will never notice. ive flown a few packs since painting and it still looks as good as the day i painted it. my flying is getting pretty good too. 4th time out tnite and i flew 3 packs without any crashs and in total control the whole time.
