I've been trying out a lot of spray paints and all of them damaged the test foam used. All of the test foam was from a Super Cub packing box but once I used part of a packing box from a Typhoon 2 3D, but I figured it was OK. Had read a suib once about someone saying the foam was different between the box and the plane, never gave it much thought but it stuck in the back of my mind. Finally had to settle on acryllic paint applied with a roller, not my first choice but it worked. Well I'm building another Super Cub now and got ready to roll on the water based paint (acrylliy paint wears awful) and decided to test on a broken old fuse I had lying around. Ta Da! Worked fine! Tested 2 small cans of spray paint that the labels had torn off of, a spray can of Rustoleum Universal (thanks cubber) and a can of Plasti Dip (rubbery paint that comes in a rattle can), all were a success! So I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a difference between painting a test patch of the packing box and not having the paint work but then actually painting the plane and the paint looks good. That sure makes me happy, because spray painting leaves a much better finish. Now all I got to do is get rid of all this excess paint, time for a bunch of new planes in all kinds of colors ;D

I have a brand new SC in the box and I plan on painting it. I don't like the flying cooler look . I've read almost every post on painting and have heard all the different techniques and products. I'm planning on painting mine yellow with a nice sticker scheme that I bought from Tower Hobbies. Just the classic cub bear and huge N numbers. It seems from what I've read the Rustoleum Universal is working well. You didn't mention if you sealed the plane first and I was curious if you did or not? Also, anything you would do different the next time you paint it? I don't want to have to reinvent the wheel here if I can avoid it.

No, didn't seal it. Just maidened it day before yesterday so can't tell how well the paint will hold up in the long run, but it was a very misty morning and so far so good. This is where I got the idea for Rustoleum supercubclub.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=pantng&action=display&thread=1719 (thanks go to cubber). Something about a bright yellow plane in the sky, easy to see, easy to keep oriented and when the sun hits it, well that's just magic with a prop.
