I've got a new wing ready to install ailerons. On both my old and new wingd, the front edge is straight while the rear edge has upward curve, starting at the plastic centre re-reinforcing. It looks very natural (bit like a gull wing) - this picture was taken in low light to show the underside of the wing. and the maximum of upward curve is .25 inch Neither wings are warped. Both wings measure the same when laid out on a flat board. The old wing flies (over 350 flights) without any problems. Now the questions: This upwardly curved rear edge means that the aileron hinge line will have the same curve. Has anyone noticed this or does it not mater? I want to use 3M Blenderm tape for the hinge along the whole length of the aileron. Will this work? or will the aileron jam because of the curve. regards

Hi all, answering your own posts is a bit like talking to yourself. I looked at the wing again and now can see that most of the curve is in the first 5 inches from the wing centre. If I make the aileron 12 inch long and start 5 inches from the centreline, the aileron will be almost flat. retiredbri

Uh... No 1st hand knowledge of the aileron part, haven't put them on yet. Yeah there is a slight curve up in the rear but it does seem to straighten out as the trailing edge reaches the wing tip. I can't see it having absolutely NO effect on the "levelness" of the ailerons, but realistically I wouldn't expect it to be more more than 1/16th of an inch off, very minimal. I'ld be more concerned about the 3 M Blenderm tape, have read about it before and it seems like a good way to go. If you do use it post in here how you did it and how it worked out please? Happy and Safe flying to all

Hi I'll take some pictures and show my "calculations " of sizes, throws, horn sizes and bevels. With Xmas coming, it may take some time to get the parts and do the work. Watch this space retiredbri
