I am waiting for a sale from HZ and will purchase a Super Cub. I would think that a landing light to show me when the SC is flying toward me and wing tip lites would be important to help me know the position maybe even a beacon strobe. I see several ways to purchase components, LED's, wires, etc., but not being very handy, is there a place where I can purchase something self contained and very simple? Like the light and battery in a single "box" and I can just easily install.

johnmcc The X port system they sell wuold probably be the easiest to install, uninstall and still leave a stock Super Cub, I've never tried it so can't be a 100% sure. I use a rubber band to attach a 5 LED bicycle light (all LEDs are pointing the same direction) to the X port tube and it's great for telling the orientation of the plane, can be seen easily in the mist too. You don't want to fly if it's too dark because a smooth landing is difficult, but since the calmest winds are usually in the early AM it's a blast flying right before sun up. Wall Mart or the mega super stores have these small finger lights or party lights that are easily attached, a friend puts one of those necklaces with LEDs along the bottom of the fuselage of his Corsair (looks awsome).

LEDs don't draw much power at all so if you use the little button batterie like in watches they will last for hours. Keep in mind that the further out on the wing you put a light, the more of an impact it will have on un balancing the plane, so put the same kind of light the same distance out on the other side of the wing. Read up on the different ways people have installed different lights, everything from cutting channels in the wing for wires from the fuselage to just sticking little party lights in the foam. Sounds like you might have small party lights so you can use packing tape if you want. As far as extra weight, it might take a little longer for take offs and a little longer to land but the trade off is more fun.

i bought a generic navigation light setup at my lhs you can either solder the leads straight to the male deans (or whatever connector u use) or solder a nine volt battery adapter to the leads and power it by a separate battery and make a little velcro strap on the bottom of the plane to hold it in place. just be creative with it. mine came with a red and green for the wing tips, 2 landing lights for under the wings or under the fuselage, a strobe for the tip of the tail and one for wherever. i went out the other night and flew mine at 11 30 i could see it perfectly. the nice thing is that you can fly when the wind dies down and everybody is out of the parks. But yeah ill post a pic of my plane pretty soon to show you what it looks like.

The light module you can get from HZ works OK, plugs into the X-port, it shines the light up under the plane, just gotta stay close, or you'll lose site of the plane.
