ok just got back from the aileron maiden...
all in all everything went well until i got to feelin' groovy and tried the loop. i forgot that i havent been out in about 2 months and i got disoriented and slammed it into the ground. the only damage to the plane was the broken struts (which i am going to replace with something else anyways) and my $10 pair of skis. im a little dissappointed about breaking the skis, but the plane is back in 1 piece and i cant complain. the covering held up well considering how much the wing flexed as it hit the ground
the cub flies absolutley amazingly with ailerons and a 3s lipo. turns are sharp and quick and the response is great. landing is a bit tricky (at least right now) with the sensitivity of the controls but it is something i will get used to. overall i couldnt be happier with the mod and the way it flies. i cant wait to get up again!

Glad to hear it Everett. Sorry 'bout the skis. The Econokote didn't pull away? That's great! I think you were given a break because it was your maiden - could have been bad man.

Glad to hear most everything went well and you liked the aileron mod. I did the same sort of thing doing acrobatic maneuvers to close to the ground...sight miss que of my stick...no time to recover, bash into the sidewalk.

the wing was really flexed out and knocked out of alignment on impact and it didnt pull away at all. if you ever had any problems with it pulling up in the middle you could just go back with your iron and suck it back in like new. i was most worried about it pulling from the wingtips as mine are iffy but it held up great there too. overall im really pleased with it. i would definitely recommend buying the colored econokote instead of going all white and then trying to spray it like i did with the ultracote. all the paint will do is flake off and make a big mess

Glad to hear about the ailerons working so well and the econokote holding up like a champ, sorry it didn't end so well. Now I'm pretty well sold on what my project over the winter will be, gotta do something when I can't fly. Thanks so much for all the advice

Hi Admiral - like you, I had my maiden on Friday (light wind) with new Spektrum electrics (no Ailerons yet). Still on the rough field so hand launched it and it went up very steep. I throttled back to stop the stall and as I turned it, it went the wrong way. I got it trimmed on half throttle - at full it just wanted to stall. After a really hairy landing I realised what had happened. During conversion, I dropped the plane and broke the fuse near the tail. Patched it up but didn't think about the extra (repair) weight so far back so the plane was tail heavy. It needed lots of down elevator trim to get the tail up to fly level but was not stable. Also, I just connected the rudder servo to the rudder as in the stock cub and didn't think to check the direction. I think the stock Rx must reverse the rudder servo (because the control rod connects to the opposite side of the rudder). I reversed the rudder servo, added 10 grams (<0.5oz but could do with more) to the firewall and it flew much better. Impressed with the throttle, the old one was "all or nothing". Mixed the aileron stick with the rudder stick so that I can revert back to right hand rudder when in panic mode. Finding rudder on the left novel and sometimes think the throttle is the elevator which makes the plane dive (no power) when you expect it to climb. Resorted to speaking out loud about what I'm going to do before I move the sticks. Will start on my wing mods soon then the aileron fun will begin. Hope your wing will be OK after all the hard work you have put in. regards retiredbri
