I'm half way through adding ailerons to my spare SC wing. I am using HXT900 servos for the elevator and rudder.
I will be adding a servo for each aileron and wondered which servo size would be best, HXT500 or the HXT900 ?
I originally thought I would use the HXT500 for the ailerons but I'm now starting to second guess it, now that I see most people seem to have used the hs-55 or HXT900.
What do you think ? (weight vs amps vs torque vs ??)
For reference: HXT500 = 0.8 kg/cm or 11oz/inch HXT900 = 1.6 kg/cm or 22oz/inch HS-55 = 1.1 kg.cm or 15oz/inch

i used 900 on my ailerons, with the cub you wont notice the extra weight any the torque helps. and the fact that there only $3 is nice too, i think i still have 15 laying around waiting for service.

From RichT I found this link in the RC Forum www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274082that provides a link to an xls spreadsheet for calculations of torque required. I'm not sure if it only applies to large planes or if it works or how good it is. It also discusses aileron differential, more up than down required and that with less down, flaperons may not be effective. On the spreadsheet it is the "Simple Servo" sheet tab at the bottom that deals with El/Rudder/Aileron servos. The "Superservo" sheet seems to allow aileron servo placement calculations to be done. ps: there are macros in the spreadsheet so your PC will alert you to enable or disable them. I enabled them but will leave the risk decision to you. regards retiredbri
