Well what a pain in the ar$e. Oops. Read your reply a little too late ginginho I cut the wire in the middle so I can solder it back together. Anyways. I installed this as per instructions. Cut the red (middle) wire, plugged the UBEC (with 1 red and 1 black wire) into the batt/bind slot on the Rx. I plugged the ESC (w/cut red wire) into the throttle slot on the Rx. Tidied the wiring and thought I'd give it a go. I turned the Tx on and connected my battery. As soon as I connected the battery the motor went to full throttle and scared the $hit outta me. Busted the prop The throttle on the stick was at idle. WTF is going on? Hopefully someone a bit smarter than me can figure this out GRRRRR. Also. Should I have the jumper on the UBEC set to 5 or 6 volts? Thanks again guys Hmm, that's a shame. I don't have any experience of that ESC but most brushless ones have a auto throttle disconnect until the Rx is talking to the Tx. Maybe the one you have doesn't. If this is the case, it may also be that the throttle needs reversing (in the radio). Perhaps try connecting it up without a prop and with the throttle at a mid point. You should be able to check then whether there is any input to the motor from the Rx (and whether it does need reversing) with a bit of stick wiggling. You may at a later time (once you've sorted this) need to adjust the throttle throw within the radio too. When I Spekky'ed my SC I had from zero to WOT over the first 1/4 of travel of the stick as default with the ESC I have.

Well you all may now refer to me as dumb$hit. You know how I said that I wired the UBEC up according to the instructions? Well. As was pointed out to me at the hobbyshop (by someone much smarter than me), I wired it on the motor side of the ESC instead of the battery side of the ESC. Now that it is wired up correctly, surprise surprise it works as advertised. Didn't I feel like a tool. Anyways. Once again the Cub is ready for flying but the dumba$$ weather isn't co-opreating with too much wind. BTW. Do I need the green round thing on the UBEC that the wire has been wrapped around? Thanks for the tips guys. Cheers Paul

This is a ferrite ring that is there to reduce RF interference. 2.4 doesn't suffer as badly as other frequencies can, so it may be surplus to requirements. If it's making installation difficult then remove it and check whether you suffer any adverse effects. If you are only concverned with weight, leave it, it's next to nothing.

Ok, to restart this thread I have some questions. We are modding ailerons to our cub and are concerned about the BEC amp problem. We are running 4 servos (2 GWS PICO's and 2 HXT900's) with the electrifly C-25 esc here www.electrifly.com/escs/gpmm2005.html. It only has a 1.5 Amp bec. So we are considering using the castle www.castlecreations.com/products/ccbec.html UBEC if it is necessary. What do ya think? Do we even need a UBEC? I am running the Dx6i with AR6200 RX www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPMAR6200. My friend is using a different 4 channel FM receiver. So to recap, my questions are: Do I need a bigger ESC than the C-25 with a bigger BEC? If so how much bigger and any suggestions? If we use the Castle creations UBEC will that be enough or is it overkill? If I use the C-25 electrifly esc, can I use the castle creations UBEC with it? Or any UBEC for that matter? Also, what do you think of this UBEC instead? www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4319Thanks! -Devin

After having had the frighteners put on me by this thread, I just purchased this little fella.... cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220627192399&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT it arrived yesterday, anybody have any experience of it? Im guessing Turnigy=cr@p? I was going to buy a hobbywing one but the guy sold out though he says he'll have more up next week. I was wondering if you use these ginginho as I believe I have the same esc's as you...the Hobbywing Pentium 40A and you use Spektrum also? Thanks all, John

Hello
Had my first brownout. I did a conversion from Stock TX and RX and went with Spektrum Radio DX7 AR500 RX, For the servos I used HXT900 9g / 1.6kg / .12sec Micro Servo and the ESC Hobbywing Eagle 30A Brushed ESC ESC-EAGLE-30A. Took it out and the first flight went fine so landed it and then took off again and was not in the air and not far away and all of a sudden i had no control over anything. I was at a lost for words!! I sense have been reading the fourm and found this link about Spektrum and HXT900 So beware of this combo I am looking at getting a Spektrum Voltage protector for my reciever and going from there. Let me know your thought on this subject. thanks for reading. 1

The Spectrum VR is merely a capacitor and for VERY brief voltage dips may be effective but for real 'brown outs' it's a band aide on a hemorrhage. Read this AND the links. You may need to do it several times before it sinks in. It is not intuitive and it is not simple. supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rg&action=display&thread=1858What you did do is unfortunately quite common.
