I was out in the shop last night.
I has just re-installed a new Un-used prop after changing out the cowling. I used my usual procedure, snug it up against the lock nut with a little loctite on the retaining nut.
There was no indications of anything wrong. I set the plane up on the bench, and went on to other things.
I was just standing there enjoying a beer, admiring the new paint job...
The prop exploded. One second it was there, the next, with a slight snapping noise, it was gone. Due to the clutter in my garage, I was only able to find one blade and part of the hub.
Near as I can tell, the hub was flawed, and when the loctite set up, it stretched the the nylon hub to the fracture point, and when it lt go, it released the pent up energy spreading the pieces all over the garage.
Has it ever happened to you?

Wow...thats unusual as all get out! I say your accident was a freak thing. Never heard of such a thing. Maybe your over-tightening it a bit? Or the nut wasn't in alighnment with prop nut slot?

I know exactly what caused that. Your shop must be over an Indian burial ground. Yep, no doubt about it... poltergeist.

As far as I can figure out, Indian Burial Grounds are EVERYWHERE...
I would look into the Beer Factor myself. Unless the SC has been properly baptized and blessed with beer, it may not fully comprehend the importance of separating the two until this ritual is carried out, and will rebel as outlined.
The good part is that the SC was not riled enough by this oversight to inflict serious injury upon to you or others within range.
Another lesson of the occult learned!

I hate it when I'm throttled down, and the prop windmills itself loose. Then when you need to throttle up to go around, the prop slips off the backing nut and freewheels. I had it happen several times one day. It could have been a defective prop. Or I might have over torqued it. From what I can tell from the bits I found, the hub split at the corners of the nut recess on the back side. I just thought it was a bit weird.
