Got a Super Cub built! Figured that I wanted a little better stuff in a Super Cub and since a90% of what comes in an RTF can't be swapped out this is what I came up with. Ordered a fuselage, wing and tail feathers from Hobby Zone to start with.
For the power train I decided to go with an e flite 450 brushless motor, an aluminum motor mount from e Bay, an e flite 25 amp ESC and the recommended 10 X 8e prop.
For the Finish I wanted a yellow plane, nothing sticks out better than a bright yellow plane in the air! I got a bottle of bright yellow acryllic paint at the local Michaels Craft Store and ended up applying it with a paint roller (the small home touch up ones from Home Depot) since I never had any luck with the spray cans. Put 2 layers of yellow 3/4 inch electrical tape on the wing tips (again from H.D.) for those inadvertent wing drags. And a set of decals to make the thing look official, well mostly it was for the windshield decal but the rest of the decals are Ok too. Of course there is the obligatory packing tape along the leading edge of the wing, can't forget that.
Got it all done by late this morning, balanced it with COG smack dab between 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 inches behind the leading edge of the wing. Ended up taping a 3/4 oz lead weight to the engine mount and that has me concerned but I'll give it a try. Well this is what I ended up with...
And this is another shot...
... with my DX6 radio sitting on the camel saddle in the background. This last picture is looking down from the wing opening and out the battery bay door. When I had the battery box out I cut the entire back wall of it so I could fit a 2200 mah Li Po in there, and added the velcro strip to hold the battery (hope it will hold but I kind of doubt it).
Well, that's it for this build, wish I had taken more pictures but got caught up in the build. Will maiden it this Friday after work when a friend will be able to video it. Weather forecast is calling for a chance of showers so maybe it'll have to moved up a day or two. Can't wait.
Oh, and thanks so much to everyone here and all the other forums (but mostly here) who provided so much input and shared their knowledge. Without it I would still be saying Dubro what?
Happy and safe flying to all...
