well today was a bad day for my simple stick. i just got my skytrace gps data logger and was seeing how fast i could get her to go. 76.x mph out of a dive was all she had. but on the last dive when i pulled up nothing happened. next thing i know SMACK, dead nuts straight in the ground. when i found it everything had ejected out, the motor was about 1.5 inches in the ground. but, after the motor got a bath in water then alcohol and my speed controller got a new capacitor, only other damage was the airframe and prop. ordered another one tonight. im gonna use the wing and tail to make a flying stick like a slow stick out of.

well one thing is for sure. Your ailerons were not glued in properly. They should never come out like that even after a crash. I am guessing your had some servo flutter because of it. Is your esc working fine? What esc? What servo's and how many of them? What radio/rx?

all 4 of us have had problems with the ca hinges that come with the plane, they don't wick the ca so the arnt very strong. the other guys have had better luck with epoxie. the plane is reall only meant for about 175 watts, not 300 lol. the elevator is very small, only about 1/2 inch wide, so I may have over powered it, or the pushrood may have bent.
I was using some cheap towerpro 9gram servos, a old parkzone 6 channel rx and my eclipse 7. the speed controll is worrking good after I replaced the capaciter that was broke and the motor feels as good as new after I reoiled it this morning.
next one will have: larger elevator, better landing gear, stronger pushrods, and more power.
these planes are kinda like the cub, fun, cheap, and easie to fly. I think we have lost two to dogfighs and two to "mechanical error" lol.

In the future do not install those junk ca hinges. Get yourself some Hangar 9 or Dubro hinges (ca). They never seem to fail in the first 300 flights. There is a good chance your servo's stalled. I have a plane similar and use the lower end futaba servos in it. No problems so far. I too have it way over powered. It's a goldberg freedom 20 with a power 25 that makes it sing.

I do have some dubro hinges that I used on the supercub, but I didn't know every one eles had problems untill after I used the stock ones, now I know better. I guess one of the guys had an alieron come off mid flight and he just kept flying till the battery died, he could only turn one way but figured he might as well get some air time in.

Man thats dangerous. We make sure to check each others planes at our field now. A firm tug at the ailerons and tail surfaces is all that is needed to tell if it is faulty usually. Imagine servo flutter causing a open circuit in a servo, amps spiking and frying the rx.....motor still wot....into a crowd.

that has happened before kevin (not the crowd part). one of the guys rudder servo bound up, but since we don't use a lot of rudder on these little guys he didn't notice. it fryed the fet in the bec on his speed control. but since that cut power to the rx the speed control sensed no signal and cut.
I normally do check things out before the first flight incase of any travle damage, but some times you can miss something. I know everyone eles does some ground test too, like you saide its good pratice and safer.
we also make sure that any extream loops, dives, doppler runs are done in the field and heading away from us and the people who stop by and watch. all doppler runs are done with a tripod now to after a close call with a edf f16.
I didn't have her very long probably 25-30 flights, but thankfuly its only a 30 dollar air frame. but this one is getting recycled fore sure, I already have some planes for what's left of it

I have seen similar events. It is always a good thing to have someone else inspect your plane. I know most folks including myself kind of do a quick once over on their planes. We all too ofter overlook things because we are used to seeing them. I found that if someone else looks it over they usually find at least one thing I looked over. No matter if it is a small detail or a major component like a wing bolt. Sure beats the alternative.
Where did you get that plane? It looks neat for 30 bucks. I want one for my kids.

that is a good idea kevin. I know when they get the edfs out they go over it wit a fine tooth comb just because of how touchy they are, and some times the other person finds stuff like a lose hing that someone eles missed.
hobbypeople.com has them, just type simple stick in the search. I have seen one fly on about 90 watts and up to a power 15, and both were fun. they have become our groups trainer and demo plane. only bad thing is the stock landing gear, its worthless, use a old supercub gear and the hings suck. and if you plan on using the colored tape to cover it grab an extra roll when you buy it.

ahh crap thats right, hobbypeople .NET lol. i always mess that one up becuase it an odd one. sorry about that here is the link to the simple stick its 37.99 and free shipping ( i like that) on anything over $25. most of the time you dont get conformation email though, it just shows up.

well here is the picture of the plot from the gps logger. as you can see pretty stright down, but the climb up there was pretty good too. doesnt look like it climbs that fast from the ground, just keeps getting smaller.
