You realize you are continuing to use the dreaded and unreliable Tamiya connector. You'll be sorry........ fly Listen to the FLY......or you will certainly be sorry. Imagine NO CONTROL at 150', with a 10-15 mph wind. Bye, Bye SC. Fly well....connected M

tamiya a no no, sooner or later, they will get you, and it wont be pretty. i was lucky, i was in a very tight turn when i lost control. it spiraled to the ground and there wasn't anything i could do but watch. if you don't like too or cant solder the eflite ec3 will be good too.

Thanks for the pics benton. i also think ill go get some of those duel connectors. ive always used tamiya connectors (2years on the cub) and never had a problem. ok they say sooner or later it will happen but if you look after it right and inspect your bits there shouldnt be a problem.

I'm one of those guys that can solder but not well.
I tried the deans, but ended up with the EC3's
It made all the difference. Before the changeover, I wasn't getting full power to the motor. Now I can fly at 1/2 throttle on a 7 cell NIMH at at less than 1/2 with the 8 cell.
Before, I couldn't fly under 3/4 on the 7 cell.
Biggest culprit was the bullet connectors to the motor. But the battery connections were weak too.

It's amazing the Cub flies at all. Somehow PZ pulled together a generally workable package of pretty good stuff that holds up to the poundings of newbies for a long time before they get their wings and enough knowledge to move on. The basic plane is very good. The motor is darn good, the electrics are the weakest link but generally the first to be replaced as the 27mHz stuff starts to get annoying soon.
Another guy I started flying Aerobirds with at about the same time stayed with the Tamiya. He came up with a way to 'refurbish' them and did so on a regular basis (I switched after I lost a connection in flight and watched it come down on the nose). He got away with it for almost 2 years. Guess what.....he's switching now. Guess why. fly

Ok, ok I got the message. I have Powerpoles so I will put those on. I like the ease of using them. It is just hard to believe how much difference there is in this little mod. So much more fun.
A new flying buddy has made the mod and his biggest problem is using too much throttle on take off. That was never a problem with the original setup

3 cell lipo 1300mah is just fantastic with the SC. Low winds = almost no throttle necessary, high gusty winds=you still have power to spare. I've new radio gear after the stock one went out (with the stock NmH), still the stock motor and prop. Changed to lipo after recieving a bum 8cell NmH (no garantee of course). I set a timer for 15 minutes and unless they're very high winds I'm using less than 80% of the lipo. You have to fight with the SC in strong winds, a lot of down elevator to make a turn, but power isn't a problem anymore. Yes, Deans for motor and lipo, no more bad or maybe bad connections.
It's a joy, I'd convert every plane from the beginning.
