I drove up to Prescott, AZ, this weekend to escape the scorching heat of Phoenix, and brought my Super Cub along for the ride. Beforehand, I had made contact with one of the RCGroups users (SpinningInPres) who lives in the area to see if he would want to get together on Saturday to fly. So we met up Saturday morning in a large field near a dry creek bed just outside of Prescott, AZ. He flew two different planes -- both scratch builds -- one a conventional plane with side-mounted camera, and the other was a flying wing without a camera. During the first flights, he flew the conventional model while I flew my Super Cub with its camera in video mode. On the second flights, he flew the flying wing while I flew with the camera in continuous photo mode. My goal was to get as much air-to-air footage as possible. Luckily, with their bright color schemes, his planes were easy to spot in the photos and videos. Linked below is a sampling of the air-to-air photos that I was able to get of his plane. I've still got a lot of work ahead of me to edit down the 14 minutes of video that was taken before I post that. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=903341 - Matt

Very cool! Wow, lots of rooms to fly eh! Seems like the place to test a new jet.

Nice pics Clipper! It must be pretty hot there at this time of year! My cousins and Grandmother are in Glendale and my Grandpa is in Prescott. Man, what I wouldn't give to fly somewhere there aren't any trees, or for that matter, the occasional cactus!

Nice work Matt. I tried air to air recently and thought i got some decent shots. When reviewing the pics i found i had not one pic of another aircraft.

Thanks, guys. admiralev: Obviously it's very hot in Phoenix this time of year, but Prescott is actually pretty nice since they're at a much higher elevation than Phoenix. We started flying around 9:00AM that day, and I think it was around 80 degrees. mrmugen: Tons of room to fly. And the brush was forgiving enough for a couple of rough landings as well. SCC: I had the camera in continuous photo mode, which left me with about 1200 photos to sort through from the one flight. In all of those photos, these were the best of the air-to-air shots. Without a downlink setup (which I don't have), it is very difficult to get any air-to-air shots considering you have to gauge the distance between the planes in X, Y, and Z directions. It made it even harder since his plane was larger than mine, so judging relative altitudes was a complete guess. - Matt

What's bad is 115 in Phoenix during this time of year. I hear ya on always being able to put on more clothes, but there are some advantages to some people wearing less clothing.

Ultimately, I would like to go with a system like that, but it's kind of hard to justify at the current price of $549.

these are pretty neat but extremely expensive! i would also think that they would take some getting used to. i dreamed of something like this the other day and i had no idea it existed! the 72 mhz kinda gets me bummed though as 2.4 is the mainstream now. i would think that they have to update that sometime soon to work with those that run 2.4
