I have never flown my SC with the wing struts on. But, before I ever flew the SC I did some prep work. I used 2" fiber reinforced tape on the wing laterally, length wise, with three runs on the top and bottom. I then covered the tips and the wing roots top and bottom. I have looped and snap roled my SC and have naver had a problem. I purchased the 3mm carbon fiber rods to place in the wings, but soon found that it was a waste of twenty dollars.

Oh, you'll get there. My wing had the 3mm carbon insert and tape reinforcement. After about a year + of constant flexing, a few cartwheels, and going to 3S the joint where the carbon joined the brass saddle cracked. I now like carbon flat inserted edgewise in 3 sections.

Hmm, I'm starting to wonder if I may need to do similar. Although I have carbon rod/brass tube combo, fibreglass tape full length on the underside of the wing and covered in Econokote, it still flaps like a gull during any full power manouver. What dimension carbon flat do you use and how stiff is the wing with that in? I assume that because you use 3 pieces, you have some dihedral still.

1x5mm. Yes-2 long sections in the wing buried as far into the saddle dihedral as they would extend without sticking out, then a short saddle section a bit to the side overlapping those.
There is a tendency in the Cub mod enthusiasm to pack excessive power (and weight) into the bird far beyond it's design specs. This has consequences. Funny-folks are shocked by this.

Thanks for the info Fly. I guess I'm one of those. When selecting my B/L I erred on the side of more rather than less power when compared against a Park 480, perhaps I should've gone the other way. I worked out recently that the throws on the Dx6i can be adjusted both up and down. I adjusted the throttle both ways (I had previously only adjusted one!) prior to the last flight I had, certainly gives me a lot more control of the revs now.

Wow, I can just imagine that moment, cvrcmember! The wings broke in half and the halves threw inward and the fuselage came straight to a nose dive. So sorry about your friend's cub. He fixed it by now.

the struts are probablt there to reduce fatigue on the foam after dozens of hours of flying and flexing the foam. all you guys took the foam to it's extreme limits, but maybe if you flex it alot over a period of around twenty battery charges you'll loose your wings. or even worse, just one.
