hey is there any way I can strengthen my landing gear? My wheels keep bending even when I have a beautiful landing. Any suggestions? ;D

I just switch them around after they bend (back). At home I put them in the vise and straighten them fully. Don't recommend straightening on the plane, the battery box is not strong and you end up stressing it.
If you reinforce the LG the shock just goes somewhere else and breaks that. It turns out the flexible LG has some advantages. Got a buddy that hates that, puts heavy duty LG on and rips them out all the time in what he STRONGLY considers a non-stressful landing. Uh Huh...

Fly's got it down. My experience has been the same. I did buy a cheap bending aparatus and bent my own gear with ever so slightly larger wire. I can't say it lasted any longer than the stock gear, but it was fun to try and got me started bending wire for all sorts of rigups ;D fly well, M

Mararra, Since you are able to bend wire why not bend a coil in the wire? My T-28 has that on the nose gear. It might pogo a bit but might not have all the bending problems.

My intuition is that you need a hard surface to land a plane with a tricycle landing gear. Is that correct? I chose the Super Cub partly because it had a tail wheel and could be plopped into grass. What is the group experience?

Alan, That is not correct. Both RC strips in my area are all grass. The T-28 forum also shows landings in grass up to 3".

A truly 'perfect' landing will not bend the gear. Bent gear means you need more practice (I need more practice-not preaching here).
Tricycle landing gear can land in short grass but technique (esp. with small wheels) is even harder than the Cub.

I bent my LG more upright plus had to bend the threaded part down a bit to square up the wheels. I think it works better now. It does give the prop a little more clearance from the ground and it does not splay the gear outward if the landing isn't "perfect". The wheels are probably 1" closer together. I am landing on asphalt now.
