CN at the bottom fro those who don't want to read...
I was flying with my floats on out in front of my house. It was beautiful out, not a breath of air. got some altitude and started to just cruise around nice and slow.
After about 10 minutes i started to see how it handles with the added floats so i started doing some hard turns and some loops. it flew almost the same as it did without them! Anyways, I did one more and something happened, i don't know what, but it did the loop and on the way back down, it just went STRAIT down. hit the water very fast with a loud FART.
It was about 300 feet from me and here is the worst part. It is salt water and the tide was going out. It was carrying it away from me! I ran back inside my house and grabbed a couple 7 cell batteries for my traxxas villian EX rescue boat and hoped they still had a charge. Well she went right out and hooked onto it and brought it back in.
As it got closer, i got to see the damage. The batter compartment was ripped out and the nice 8-cell elite was now being dragged through the mud on the bottom. the ESC was fully submerged in salt water. I wasn't too mad at myself, i figured that i would just upgrade now to something brushless.
After i washed everything off with the garden hose, i got to work drying everything and lubing everything back up. I set the ESC outside in the sun to let it dry and gorilla glued the battery box back into place. I had to fix a crack on the motor mount but that was about the extent of the damage. I didn't even break the prop!
About 20 minutes after i set the ESC outside to dry out, i just had to try and see if it would still work. I hooked the battery up to it with nothing else attached and it didn't smoke. Then i hooked the motor up and sure enough, it spun! hooked the servos up and they worked fine too! i couldn't believe it. Now i just have to put it all back together and go flying again! I just wonder how long it'll last now, salt water is pretty corrosive...
CN-Crashed plane into salthingyer. retrieved plane with RC boat. dried out and still works great!
