Can you safely fly without a cowl on the front end?

Sure. It provides minor protection on a crash for the gears and stuff. Since you don't have one you are probably still at 'that stage'? They go back together pretty good with filament tape.

i got sick of breaking them so i stopped using one a long time ago. like fly said it does help keep stuff out of the gears and from catching on stuff but i never had a problem with out it. dosent look quite as nice but you will be ok.

Anyone ever try to fabricate a replacement out of a plastic bottle? 1 qt bleach maybe, lots of soda options/colors... Of all the things I didn't breaak the cowl was one.

^^^ i thinking of trying fiberglass. i bough two when i ordered my gearbox to make a bruhsless motor mount, and i have a bunch of .5 and .75 oz cloth. i just need to either make a plug from one or use it as a plug, maybe ill try this weekend.

The soda bottle idea sounds good!
