Here is what I have done! I have built a 1952 Live Wire Trainer. Which is a high wing plane like the SC. I am using an entire super cub power system and radio. it has a 48" wing 432 sq in. area and weighs 1050 grams. I fly my SC with 8.4 and 9.6 and I also have 3s 2200 lipos. I have never used the Lipos in the SC therefore I have no idea what the power difference is. Do you guys think the Lipo will fly the above mentioned plane. I love my SC but I like the old vintage stuff also. I have also converted a 1950s Lil Esquire from gas to a SC system and at 850gr it flys fine with the 8.4s. Need your thoughts and opinions! Thanks Bill

Hi Bill. I'm sure with the lipo it will be fine. Would be good to see some pics of these models.

Well weighing in at 37.5 ozs without the battery (I assume) it will be marginal I think. The stock sc weighs only 26ozs AUW. I would try to get some watt readings if possible. 70-90 watts per pound is what your after for slow flight/trainer. If it can put out that needed power then you will be fine. Basically a minimum of 164 watts is needed to get you up and flying.
Kevin
PS...beautiful looking plane! Nice job!

Kevin, that weight of 1050 gr is ready to fly weight and INCLUDES the 9.6v 8 cell batt. The 3s lipo would drop my weight some to 1030 gr. My thinking is it will fly nostalgic as in 1952 when hand launching was the norm. I just want to some how to do this with a SC set up!

I see. I believe it will be fine then. Try not to fly in wind for the first flight. Better safe than sorry.

I should of referred to my weight calc. I was thinking 1050gr was about 31oz . Even at 1030gr that is still over 10oz extra than the SC. I think it will struggle. Great looking plane. If you stick with that SC package i would get rid of those Tamiya connectors.

Maybe even try a 10x6 prop. What servo's are going to run the ailerons? It looks to have plenty of dihedral so the small rudder should work fine. Did you build this from plans/kit?

Sorry for the confusion. The pics are of 2 different models the red and cream one with the ailerons is a 1950s Lil Esquire with Super Cub guts. 40" 320sq in wing at 830 grams it flys great with SC set up. The ailerons are there but not functional they were an experiment a long time ago but were not effective because they were to small for the thick wing and the dihedral caused to much adverse yaw. When I restored it I just locked them in place. The plane in question is the white silk covered one from 1952. 48" 432sq in 1030 gr with 3s lipo, 1050gr with 9.6v pack. Have not flown it yet just trying to get a feel for and opinions as to if the the SC set up will fly it. Thanks Bill
