What about the battery chargers? Do you make an adapter or replace the charger cord connector to Deans? What about polarity?

You need to put a male dean connector on your charger lead to plug into the female dean on the battery.

To confirm polarity, before changing to deans plug your charger into the battery, Identify and mark the charger lead that plugs into the battery's red lead (positive) as positive and identify the charger lead that plugs into the battery's black lead (negative) as negative. From readings taken with my VOM, I believe the charger positive lead is the solid black lead and the negative is the one marked with a white line but you need to eyeball it as described just to be certain. Observe strict compliance to proper polarity when you change the charger and the battery over to deans connectors. Check out mr mugans video on soldering for some excellent easy to follow soldering instruction.

jim,
Comparing the leads on the chargers there is a white tracer on one of the wires. The wire with the white tracer plugs into the red battery wire.

Allan,
Glad you got it figured out and thanks for the confirmation of the leads on the charger. I didn't note the color code before clipping the original connector off of my battery and wanted to be sure before putting the male dean on my chargers leads.

On my car charger at least, the wire with the white strip goes to the black wire. I swapped out all my connectors for deans last night and double checked the clipped off tamiya ends just to be sure.

I'm charging my 8 cell right now and everything seems to be progressing ok with the above connections. Guess I won't know for sure if the charge is sucessful until I fly again.

Let me kow what you think of the 8 cell batt. I have 2 of them on order from cheapbatterys.com. How tight was the fit getting the 8 cell into the battery box?

zero3803......thanks for the check on the car charger color code. Seems odd but I believe the color code is different for the wall charger and the car charger. On the car charger the solid black wire reads 12 plus volts. On the wall charger, its the white striped wire that reads 12 plus volts. And you just confirmed that the car chargers white striped wire goes to the black battery lead. Can you check your clipped connector that came off of the wall charger?

My wall charger is the opposite, the white tick marks on the wall charger wire connect to the red wire on the battery.

Thanks for checking that out for me. Seems odd to have to observe different polaritys between the chargers but at least now my voltage readings are backed up by your eyeball check of your connectors for me.

jim,
I have not tried yet to get the 8 cell into the battery box but it looks to be a tight fit. I did, however, extend the leads on the ESC and replaced the connector with a Deans (male). The extra length on the wiring will help with 7 or 8 cell batteries. When I installed the 7 cell battery to fly the last time the wire to the ESC was somewhat short. It connected but I knew then I would want to make this mod.

Swimmer;
Yes, it is located in the same place. I don't know where a picture of the jumper might be...I am sure there is one on this forum as well as others, but the wire jumper is at the exact same location as the ACT connections at the controller. My orginal was just a little piece of silver wire located in the same bay. My new controller is a little black plastic piece which I assume houses the wire jumper. I just put a piece of tape over that and the space left from the ACT connector removal. I hope this helps. Let me know. I am going to look for a picture somewhere and see if I can put a link here too.

sleddog,
I see exactly what you are talking about and will put tape over it.
Thanks.
