Finally got the opportunity to fly my SC for the first time this afternoon. There was just a little wind. The first flight went very good, I must admit I was very nervous, and the landing produced a slightly bent landing gear axle. I can bend it back into alignment with no problem.
The second flight was going good until the motor cut in and out and I seem to have lost control sporadically. Luckily, I was able to glide it into some tall grass which caused no damage. I disconnected the ACT sensors before we went flying and the battery connection seemed solid. Back at the van I checked all controls and all is ok. I checked when I got home and battery voltage is still in excess of 9V.
Any ideas?
Wow...what a rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm hooked.

Maybe I can answer my own question...I think I was pointing the Tx directly at the SC when the motor stopped. Could this be the problem?

I would check the connectors between the battery and the RX a little more thoroughly. The stock connectors are notorious for poor connections and the symptoms you are describing. I generally connect the battery, (with the TX turned on), grab the wires on the battery and RX right at the connectors and wiggle them back and forth. If you hear the servos cutting in and out then you know its one or both of the connectors.
The next thing might be a bad TX or RX. I can't give you any idea on how to test those unless you know someone with the same frequency TX and RX.
Also welcome to the addiction!

Hi Swimmer. Congrats on your maiden. Your problem could of been a simple glitch but i would definately change the connectors. Deans are excellent. The problem with the Tamiya connectors is the rolled tin pins. Thay open up and a good connection is lost. good luck.

SCC,
Would you have the Dean's connector part number(s) for the SC?

Soldered connectors to two batteries tonight. The Deans connectors make a very good connection.

Swimmer;
The Deans change-over made all the difference in the world for me. The "glitching" has been reduced to nothing (after a resolder on one battery connector). About 45 flights logged so far. I am guessing that you have already checked and taped that little jumper that is located in the same controller bay as the ACT connectors.

sleddog,
It is located by the sensor connections, right? What do you mean to "tape the little jumper?"
