Went flying this morning, NICE day. About 60 degrees at 9 AM, calm I mean a really good day. Well that`s what I thought... Should have known better, the park I went to is surrounded by trees and the wind can be VERY deceptive, swirls around from all different directions. First flight ended up in a tree. Got it back after about 15 to 20 minutes with suprisingly little damage, a ding in the wing. Couldn`t stay in the air after that so I swapped battery packs right away (error #1) and tried again. Well after 3 failed attempts (nosed into the ground each time) the motor wouldn`t even cut on. Got this ferocious smell from the fuse too. When I got it home and taken apart I saw the receiver was fried, smell coming from compartment under the wing. Right now I`m not so sure I want to re build it, but am thinking about putting in an AR6000 receiver, binding that to my DX6 radio and that`s about all I`ve thought. Any suggestions on what servos and what ESC to use? I would be starting with a new fuse, wing and tail feathers (also busted those up) and putting in the parts needed. I saw that most of the electrics in the Super Cub are not swapable so even wonder if a venture like that would be costlier than getting another RTF. Any suggestions? Anyone done a complete makeover and got any ideas? Thanks much in advance. For now it`s back to the sim...lol

Hi Patmagal, I`m using an AR6000 in my SC. When I replaced the electronics I used a couple of HS-55 servos and a GWS 20 amp ESC found here www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=GWSICS480 I didn`t want to spend alot of $$$. I had to shim the servos with some balsa wood to get a tight fit in the SC, but I`ve had no problems with them. I think the servos and ESC combined cost me about $32 shipped. Ive been really happy with this set up so far, I`m going to go with lipos soon. Hobby city has Zippy 3S 1500mah lipos for around $20 ea. Even with paying shipping from Hong Kong and the 2 week wait they are still a pretty good deal. Good Luck

5280ducs Thought about it last night and figured that I should just put the $ into another plane. But what I should do and what I`ll probably do are way diffrent (lol) What I`ll probably do is lay off this for a little while and then just do a complete re build with new parts (fuse, wing, tailfeathers etc.) I`m thinking it`ll fly a lot better with upgraded parts like ESC, receiver, servos and radio. That`s great to know about shimming the HS-55 servos, and using a GWS 20 amp ESC, thanks a lot. I ordered some Zippy batteries from Hobby City 10 days ago and the order is still pending (they`re on backorder) but the price looks great. Thanks Again, Happy Flights

Will a DX7 operate a 3 channel airplane?

Ahhh... Well after several months away from the Super Cub I`m back.... Ordered a fuse, tail feathers and wing from Hobby Zone. They should be arriving soon and I hope to put a Park 450 brushless motor and an e flite 25 amp ESC in it. I have these 2 batteries I`m hoping to use, both are 3S1P but one is 1300 mah and the other is 1700 mah. I figure it would only mean one has less flight time than the other, maybe 5 minutes and 7 minutes. I know that a 2100 mah is recomended but I`d like to try these first. Anyone have an opinion on this? Happy and safe flying to all.

just make sure that the 1300mah is at least rated at 15c to handle the current.

duck9191 Ok, thanks. Both are rated at 20C so they should be good. Plus they are cute little batteries that pack a good punch, just not for too long. With the weight savings (lighter motor and battery) I've got to remember to check the COG. Thanks again
