Hi, I just got and unlocked a CVS camcorder to use for aerial video, but I am concerned about the impact it could have on the SC's flight characteristics. I've been thinking about mounting it on the side, but what impact would this have on the balance of the plane? the dihedral should help, but I don't want the plane to go into a deathspin. I've also been thinking about mounting it on the bottom, in a way that angles it more toward the front or sides. I'm leaning toward looking toward the side since this will keep the profile of the camera small. I just have a stock SC, it should handle the weight, but what can I expect and what should I watch out for? Thanks in advance, just trying to make my first aerial video a good one .

Hi To find out how the cub feels with the extra weight do a test flight with something thats the same size and weight as the cvs. This way you are not risking the camera.

its roughly 5oz as it stands at the moment. I haven't modified the camera any except to solder on the usb cable. I could eliminate about 1-2.5 oz if I powered it from the receiver and took off the case. But I'd like to be able to use it for other things and the protection of the case is worth the weight IMHO.

just make sure you keep the weight near the cog. i had mine mounted a little froward and i didnt care for how it flew. my cvs camera is unmodified with the battery compartment and everything. i mount it on the side of the cub at the cog. other then being a bit slower, it doesn't feel much differnt from stock.

Thats the kind of information I'm looking for duck ;D. does it want to drift to that side or does the dihedral keep the plane pretty stable? How do you attach it to the plane?

i didnt have any drifting problems but i did notice that turning to the side with the camera was very touchy, as it didnt take much rudder input to turn. turning opposite of the camera was a littel sluggish but ok. just keep the weight close to the fuse and cog and you will be ok. mine is attaches with Velcro and two rubber bands around the fuse and over the camera. just don't use the 3m extrema hold crap, its got hooks on both sides. its too strong and will pull foam off with it when you take the camera off. the cub should be back flying soon. i just need to make a new motor mount and i will be all set. so far i only have one video on youtube so far hopefully soon i will have some new ones with brushless lipo power and better lighting. another thing, you can mount the camera on the bottem of the plane but you need to be really high to get anything good. PS don't use krylon h20 paint, it flakes off and looks like crap like mine.

Hi,
I also have a CVS cam. I took the cam completely appart. Now I just use the circuit board/lense assy powered directly off the reciever. I then rigged a dental mirror on the cam lense assy and now I can lay the cam flat on any surface and point the mirror in any direction. The wieght is now less than half of what it was. BTW. the SC can handle the weight but with the cam not taken appart you must have the cam facing sideways. Otherwise there will be too much wind resistance.
