After months of researching the many great Super Cub threads, I jumped in today by ordering my SC. Decided to get one off e-bay with a dead ESC/RX (surprise surprise!) I wanted to put hobby grade electronics in from the start. Many thanks for all of the helpful posts that was soooo helpful in this process of making a decision on selecting a starter airplane.

Thanks for the welcome! I have enjoyed reading some of your posts during my browsing on the sidelines during the winter. Here's my thoughts on the electronics package, give it a sanity check and let me know if you have any other ideas / comments.
Castle Creations Berg 4L for the RX, Electrify C-12 ESC, and HS-55 servo's. I'll use the stock 7 cell batt and pick up an 8 cell 1500 NiMH from cheapbatterys to have a second one. Thanks to a post by mr mugan I picked up the Hobbico quick field charger and a good friend of mine gave me a Futaba 72 mhz TX to get started with.
I'll make all of the usual recommended reinforcements with the packing tape and I'm thinking about the wheel mod posted by sackohammer to get some bigger wheels on.
I'm going the route of a flying club as my friend who is a very good pilot will be acting as my IP during my learning phase. Spending lots of time on the FMS for some orientation training and looking forwarded to getting out there soon.javascript:add("%20;D") Grin

Finally had some weather that allowed the maiden today. Flew beautiful from a hand launch. After some pattern work, was able to shoot some acceptable approaches that allowed me to get her down in one piece. I was flying in a large open field with about a foot of tall grass so it was a perfect place for a first time out. After a couple of packs flying the pattern, I felt comfortable enough for some practice approaches and landings in the tall grass. The supercub proved to be everything I had hoped for in a trainer for sure!
My set up is a Berg 4L receiver, Castle Creations Pixie 20 ESC and HS 55 servos with a Futaba 72 hz transmitter. Many hours spent on the FMS sim paid huge dividends as I had developed some pretty decent muscle memory that helped orientation a great deal especially on the approaches. I also had a mentor right beside me who coached me right thru a couple of tough spots I got myself into. (Low and slow upwind turn with high AOA! Yikes!?!?!?)
Thanks to all for the many helpful things I gleaned from reading the excellant posts on this site as it really helped my learning curve for sure.

I am new to this hobby of flying Rc planes, but I have enjoyed my cub. It's not as easy as they make you believe. There is a learning curve. I am getting alot of good ideas from this site.It has helped to prepare the plane before I took it out the first time. I have flown it high and for a while ,but i have trouble when the plane is coming back toward me to think backwards with the rudder.
