well i have been wanting to go brushless for awhile and though since i am broke right now i would go the budget route. most parts were bough on ebay, other then the servos since i needed to get a firewall i just got them threw horizon hobbies, but for even cheaper you could just get the ebay servos.
Radio.
since im not that concerned with a digital radio yet i found the parkzone 5-AP radio. this system is industry standard and came with a 6 channel reciever. i wish they would use this radio in the cub since it can be reused and allows you to use standard servos and the esc you like. COST $24 for tx/rx
Esc/motor.
i went with a 28/36/10 outrunner from head up rc. here is the link to the one i got. it should be good for about 36-38 oz or thrust at between 40-50 mph according to the data they give, but we will see how well it preforms in the cub. for the esc i got a Power up 32 amp from heads up rc as well alone with the x mount and prop adapter. Cost $61 for motor, esc, prop adapter and xmount.
the only thing i did have to do is make the wires on the esc longer, for both the battery lead and the motor leads as they were only about two inches long. so i took some 12 ga wire and made them long enough to fit the cub.
servos.
as i stated early i ended up getting them from horizon hobbies so they werent as cheap. i ended up with the hs-55's which ran i think $26 for two.
batteries.
finally going lipo also, so should be real big improvement over stock.
i got two 2400mah 12c mystery batteies from ebay also. so far after a few cycles they are only taking 2200 mah, but we will see how they do after they have a bigger load ran through them. was nice that they came with dean already one them and came with the male ends also. two ran me $46.
Motor mount
yay for the free part lol. like others have i used the stock gear box base and cut off the shaft housing. for the motor plate i used some scrap plexi glass. right now its really rough and ugly, but i just want to get it mounted and lined up then ill make another nicer looking one.
Prop
at last the props. the listing said that with an APC 10 x 5E: 38 oz thrust @ 22.5 amps with a pitch speed of 42 mph and a APC 10 x 7E: 36 oz thrust @ 25.0 amps with a pitch speed of 53 mph. so i got one of each plus i have a few differnt 10x8s to try.
a few pics of the radio installed in the cub.
and a pic of the motor mount.
if all goes well i should be able to madin it tomorrow i hope. need to check the COG and adjust the trim but should be ready to go.
ill post some more pictures and let eveyone know how it flys.
what do you guys think?
