kudos to the wing strut mod offered by grubbyjeans. Its really simple and seems secure. Best of all it allows for easy wing removal.
Have any of you made this mod? Any problems? I did the mod but its too windy to fly.
Also on GJs web site he shows a super nice batt box repair, looks good as new.
Thanks for sharing the work GJ!

I tied polyester kite string (very strong and no weight) to a safety pin and put the pin onto the wing and a loop to the screw not in all the way. I used the safety pin to make it so the stress is spread out at the wing. Tying the string to the wing might be too much stress at a very small point. It's easy to remove the wing by unlooping at the fuse screws and invisible while flying. But I've found the knots are untying so I added add a dab of sc to the knots.
I like the velcro idea too.
The only problem I see with the paper clip is that the attachments are to each other, not to the fuse. So each side of the wing is pulling against the other side of the wing. I'm not sure, but that just seems like it could fail, but I can't really say how, so maybe it just fine.

That's what I like about forums, so many good ideas. I've not broken the original struts yet... but when I do, I'll be tying something on to take there place! Thanks to all of you for sharing your great tips.

I have replaced the provided strut screw with small screw eyes, the kind that are included with picture frame mounting hardware. (These would be the eyes that the picture frame wire is tied to.) They fit perfectly into the existing screw holes on the battery box. The fuse end of the strut fits over the screw eye when turned perpendicular to the length of the fuse. After slipping the strut over the screw eye, I give it a quarter turn to tight with my fingers and the strut cannot come off. This set up has worked pefectly for 2 months. (The screw eyes are on their second fuse.) All I have to do is unscrew the eye a quarter turn and pull up on the fuse end of the strut and the wing is the free for removal. No tools needed and reinstallation is a snap.

Remember, this thread is about the paper clip mod.
I have used this on my cub, and it works very well. It is a little clumsey closing the battery door, but it gets away from the battery door plate screws.

But even with the fishing line, I would have the screw eyes in place. Well Done sleddog.

That's a cool idea......I'm thinking about trying fishing line, eyehooks and fishing swivels.
