Hello my flying friends. Yeah, those struts! When I got my first Super Cub, I absolutely loved the plane, but I could not tolerate the idiocy of having to screw the wing struts down. After all, transporting the Cub is much easier (and safer for the plane) with the wings removed. I believe I have come up with the perfect solution... velcro. Yes, I love velcro. Take a look at one of my YouTube videos, entitled "Night Flying - HZ Super Cub". You can see the mod in the video. With this simple mod, removal of the wing is now quick and simple (and requires no tools). Also, I put a single strip of velcro on the bottom center of the wing to "catch" the two loose wing struts for transporting... keeps the struts from flopping around as they are stuck to this middle piece of velcro. Anyway, take a look. I have two cubs and am having a blast. However, as we are all seeing in this forum, there are some commonsense and creative solutions to some of its shortcomings. Hope this helps. :)thank you chasrankin i Made up a load of struts as you recommended and its changed my life. even with the little bit of Velcro in the middle of the wing for transportation makes a big difference. If we had a comp for tip of the month, you would get my vote. Everyone should try this, its so simple but makes a huge difference to time and effort when the struts pop out. Thanks again ;D

Add some carbon fiber tape to the wings and stop using them all together.

HERE HERE I agree, show us the goods. I thought one key rule of flying the cub was KEEP THE STRUTS ON!

One of my struts broke on the first flight. Here are a couple of photos showing how I replaced them. The cord is sturdy cotton cord. The knots holding the cord to the wing are soaked with a drop of airplane glue so they don't come un-done. I especially like how the fishing clips meet in the middle and stow nicely while transporting the wing.

^^^ works nice doesn't it. i just used the fishing line that came on the leaders i used. makes it much easier to transport in my small car.

I went the velcro route a while ago, and I love it. I've had to replace the fuzzy part of the velcro once because it does eventually wear out. Once your struts start coming off often during loops, it's time for new velcro. It might be a little difficult to see in the photo, but I put the hook side of the velcro on the body of the plane, from one side to the other and cut out a small semi-circle where the hatch latch can rotate freely. My two friends who also fly their SC's with me have done pretty much the same thing. Scott (Hope the posted picture shows up!)

:)Hi twister65 Thats exactly what i done in the end and i think its one of the best mods out there. have you put a small pce of Velcro in middle of wing for when you transport, keeps the struts safe in one place. Good picture too.

Good picture too. I don't have a small piece in the middle, since I don't really have to go far to fly. It's a few minutes away and I carry my plane as is, ready to go. I might do it anyway, in case I ever have to take it in my truck.

i dont use struts anymore, its wicked to see the wing bend to the point of breakin, but the clear packin tape helps.

Add some carbon fiber tape to the wings and stop using them all together. Carbon Fiber tape to reinforce them? Pix? Sure-I did this months ago. Pix and method in this link: supercubclub.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=ts&action=display&thread=1173751994Still flying this with no problems at all. This discussion comes up again, and again, and again...... This is obviously a serious weak spot in the Cub that PZ should have dealt with a long time ago. That and ACT... Maybe one of the moderators can move the link to this folder? flydiver

What's wrong with the ACT really? I'm very new to this hey... So the ACT seems to assist me quite a bit...

^^^ its very easily confused by flying over different materials. its not recommended to fly over water, concrete or sand as the light color can be mistaken as sky causing the system to activate when not needed. best thing to do is unplug the sensors which will make the act switch become a dual rate switch effectively. when on it reduces the servo throws to help you not over control the plane.
