Hello, I'm known as Mr. Mike, because I have an automotive shop named Mr. Mike's Automotive Repair, and the name stuck. I live in Claremore, Ok. just a little north and east of Tulsa, Ok.
My buddy got us into this hobby and I LOVE it, we have had our cubs about 4 months. We started with the small "fommies", 2 channel things, that was OK for about 3 or 4 weeks, then my bud found the Super Cub's, both got one, quickly discovered we didn't know how to fly, 15 to 45 sec flights then crash, over and over. The only thing that saved our cub's was that we have 100 acres with 3 ft tall grass and a 75 ft hill on the north side, we're able to launch off of the top of the hill and be 75 to 100 alt in no time, with prevailing winds from the south 90% of the time. I tried to fly in too strong a wind and lost my bird for over a week, was just smart enough to write my phone number on the fuselage the day before and a farmer found it and called me, I thought it was gone till fall when the leaves fall off the trees, but it was in a field and not a tree, small miracle.
The next thing we did was get a simulator and learn how not to crash so many times ( we still crash or find a big tree a lot of the time). We found this and some other forums and have read ever thing we can find. You guys are a GREAT HELP in learning what we need to do and how to make some modifications to our cubs. We learned to tape wings, support landing gear, how to glue and repair thing from all of you guys, thanks again. We went to a local club and was snubbed (nicely) and told if we didn't use nitro or balse(?) we wasn't flying, so much for that club.
We just located a big parking lot outside of town and have just started doing takeoff and landing, first ones were not pretty, bent or broken props, cowling's, bent landing gear, broken wing or tail, but we are much much better now.
My bud just ordered a "war bird" with ailerons, I see more crashes and long range recovery coming our way, o'well thats all part of the fun.
