Hi Dave So when you have cracked it, you will be able to use it more than once. Whats the frame rate? Cheers yes, you can use it more than once. The software driver you load on your PC essentially unlocks it every time you connect it via USB and give it the 'unlock' command. I believe it can do 30 frames/sec at 640x480 but I'll have to double check that this week. I'll post some pics later this week or next as to my mods and that info. For $20, you can't go wrong. dave mc

If it is 30 fps it will be a steal @ $20 Look forward to seeing the mods and hopefully some footage.

I was thinking of doing this when I bought my camera. I didn't because I heard that there were different versions of this camera and some you couldn't hack. I wasn't sure which one to buy.

So here are my mods as I promised to post. I decided to cut down the plastic camera case and eliminate the battery area as others have done. The cut-down case itself is about 1oz of weight. To take the camera apart, the stick-on label around the LCD display needs to be removed to reveal the 4 screws as below. Then the case is simply pried apart with the help of a small flat head screw driver. This is the bare board inside the CVS camera. Since I intended to retain the case, I was going to reuse the palm-like connector to USB that fits into the top of the unit. All I needed was a 2 pin connector for an external battery to power the camera. I added that to the end of the PCB with CA glue and a little hot glue to give it a little more strength: This is the bottom of the camera: Cut down camera weighs in at 2.3oz With a 3v Lithium battery added, total weight is 3oz. I shot this sample video today after setting up the camera for 640x480 at 30fps. The compression was set to low. At this setting, you can maybe do 10 mins of video before running out of memory. This camera has 128MB onboard, not 512MB as I first mentioned. It's not the best sample to show frame rate. Sample video on putfile: media.putfile.com/cvs-camera-sample-640x480-30fps--6mbps30MB version of raw video sample below. You need a XVID codec to view the file. You can get that here: www.koepi.org/xvid.shtmls21.quicksharing.com/v/8827469/cvs_demo_640x480_6mbps.avi.htmldave mc

Awesome! Just picked one up at RiteAid and can't wait to get cracking on this mod. Any suggestions for the palm-like to USB connector/software?
Sam
Edit: Never mind! Figured out (via google) how to hook everything up. Just soldered in a USB cable for the test run and it's awesome!

Dave What other mods do you have to do, I thought you have to flash a resistor on the board or something Regards Bill

Does anyone have the steps to unlock it? if you get the correct OPS software version with the embedded encryption keys, it will unlock it everytime you use that software automatically. dave mc
