Does anyone know if the P-51 prop shaft works with the SC? Last week, my SC died in mid-loop for no reason -- fresh battery at the time, but I lost all power. Needless to say, the ground came fast. I broke the prop, bent the prop shaft, shattered the cowl, and knocked half of the firewall loose from the fuselage. I went to the shop today to pick up a new cowl and prop shaft, but the shaft is on backorder. He asked me if the P-51 shaft would work. It looked the same, the part numbers ARE different, but I didn't chance it. I managed to get the SC prop shaft off (not easy to get those bearings slid off when there's a bend in the shaft!), but before I head back to the store later this evening to compare, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has tried it. Thanks! Scott

Hey twister65, the prop shaft, motor and gearbox interchange. I have been using many parts from PZ and HZ aircraft for a while now.

If you stop by the hardware store, you mite be able to match the shaft with a hollow rod threaded in the inside. It has to be the same thread so, the prop shaft will straighten when you screw it in side. I also straighted it, by adding more then one bolt on the shaft. You must screw them on at the same time side by side.

I managed to straighten the prop shaft once, from a minor mishap, but this time it was pretty warped. I picked up the P-51 shaft tonight and it works perfectly. No time to fly, but I taxied around the parking lot for a while. Sounds nice and smooth too, like a new plane. I guess I didn't get the old one as straight as I thought the first time. Scott
