I'm inpressed zeta30,
I'm in the UK and since viewing this thread I've been searching for a local supplier and no-one here does it.
I've also been researching the new HZ J-3 LiPo RTF at $159 and it's not due for release until October, this means we won't get it here until around December or later.
It all looks the same size as the SC but only uses 7. something, 2 cell LiPo power, I'm wondering if it'll fly our 11.1v power packs.
I can't wait to find out since it looks a really nice improvement on the Cub.

Zeta30, I'm installing this gear also. Did you have a hard time drilling the two holes for the battery box? My standard drill bits won't cut the stainless steel. I might need a carbide bit.

Looks good. Be warned-unless you do something to reinforce the area I think you've just increased your opportunity to rip our your battery box. The wire gear is lousy but does absorb a lot of shock. I'm ALWAYS unbending it. Please, keep us posted. I'd like to be wrong.

Not at all. All you need to do is use the battery cover holes as a template. Set the cover on the landing gear and mark where you want the holes with a felt pen. I did have to make one more mod, by setting a strip of wood into the SC for more reinforcement. I got this idea from mrmugen here: supercubclub.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=whls&action=display&thread=1174274658With the above mod the gear is very solid. The only thing I wish I could change is to make the wheels wider apart.

Did you put a vertical reinforcement in too? I think that would make a big difference in spreading the load. When I re-glued my battery box (preventative) I put in carbon "whiskers" around the perimeter edge foam and a couple of vertical carbon strips in front of the box where the landing gear is.
Got a buddy with a Magpie. It was his first build but he had been flying my Slow Stick, Cub, and seen another buddy new to flying bust up a SS and EasyStar while learning. When he built the MP he read the build thread and reinforced the hell out of the known weak spots including a very robust landing gear. It hasn't broken out but it is starting to bend. He's also going to have to rebuild the nose/motor mount area. Too many whacks have given the foam "smush cancer".

Yes I definitely put in the reinforcements I wouldn't have thought of that if I hadn't read mrmugen's post on it.
It has taken some pretty hard landing after the wood mod and the only thing that happened was the landing gear bent a little.
