I have used two methods that I have seen on the web for modifying the stock landing gear. I have just combined them with a few items I had on hand. I had some left over fishing gear after finishing my wing struts. I took the one end that had the loop and put that on and kept it in place by using electrical tape or black heat shrink. I pulled it tight and wrapped it around the bottom screws holding on the cowl. Then I tied it into a knot and cut off the rest. Finally, tighten down the screw. This keeps the gear from bend backwards. To keep the gear from moving sideways, I used a middle bracket. I used an old metal clothes hanger and cut it into a length I could fit between the wheels. I bent one end into a hook shape. To keep it from moving, I wrapped the landing gear with electrical tape to make a better hold then slide the bracket over it. It is a really tight fit. Once it is on, you can bend it to make it hold tighter and stretch the landing gear and slide on the other hook. Then bend that a little to secure it. Final product: I have to straighten it out better but you get the idea.

That's a pretty neat idea, but I'd be too worried that a hard landing my pull the cowling screws out.

That's a pretty neat idea, but I'd be too worried that a hard landing my pull the cowling screws out. Pretty sure it will pull the screws out. One of the primary reasons for battery boxes being ripped out is the stupid strut attachment and that is way more secure than those tiny screws. Now, if say you put a bamboo skewer (or carbon fiber rod) all the way through the front fuse/firewall area and attached it to that it could very well work. Fritz
