I was out flying today. Perfect weather, 5 mph winds, snow was 6 inches of crusty with a bit of soft wet snow on top. My skis rog and landed beautifully.
After flying I notice one side of my wing didn't stay as tight as the other. I compared my 6 month old rubber bands to a package of new ones I had in the box. I noticed the old ones had stretched considerably. Replaced them and the wing was tight again.
The old rubber bands didn't have as much tension. I tried knotting them to shorten them. It helps, but still don't have the holding power. Knotting would be a field fix however.

Interesting you mention this subject. I was just pondering adding extra rubber bands and see if there is a difference in flight due to the wing holding tighter in place. Secondly, after a few quick stop landings ( nose overs in snow ) I have noticed a gap has evolved in front of the wing where the wing mates with the fuselage. It seems possible the wing could 'see-saw' back and forth during flight due to this gap. Is this something any of you have noticed? Does it seem reasonable to add a spacer in front of or behind the wing to take up this space. I can take a picture and post if it would be helpful. Wayne

Yeah guys the forward and aft fuselage points will get beat up and require beefing up BUT. I came home after an extended period on the road and my rubber bands over the wing were LIMP! My plane hangs in the garage where my wife smokes 3 pks a day. yeah i know, don't bother. I went to my local rc dealer and instead of selling hobbyzone bands he now sells a 1000 pk of bands from probably office max. They work just the same and at 1000 for 1.99 it took the cake. Now before i fly i hold the plane by the wings and jiggle it to make sure the older bands still have the hold.

Hey LawnDart Do happen to know what # size those bands are? 6 for $1.99 or 1000 for $1.99 very little thought process needed.

They are # 32's. I did the same thing. However, I did strengthen the rear part of the fuse where it mates with the wing. I just laid a thick bead of hot glue and molded it until I was happy. Seem to work just fine. I also noticed that the new bands were much tighter.

Aside from being a bit cocky, I think loose rubber bands played their part in my recent wreck. I think the wing lifted up away from the fuse and gave the plane the last bit of drama that it needed to plant itself firmly in the ground from about 80' up.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know where #32 colored rubber bands can be obtained for such a mod?

Our postman leaves shedloads on the pavement, all good, all free. They work brilliantly. My back just hurts a bit bending down and picking them up.
