Had a little argument with a tree and the rudder has parted company from the fin. If I try and tape it back on then of course it can't turn both ways, anyone got a tip on what to do? Cheers

You can use hinge tape....it will be the hinge and it will still allow the Rudder to turn Both Directions. here is a pdf file of how one person uses it, it also may help www.foamflyer.info/tapehinges.pdfThe tape will hold it to the Fin, but is flexable enough to allow the Rudder to move

Try hinge tape, yes... But if this is the sportcub, the tail feathers being foam, I think it may struggle to hold for long. I'd be tempted to replace the assembly. And not to fly into trees

Thanks mate, big help. I would replace the whole thing but I bought this second hand and the tosser who built it tightend the assembly screws so tight I can't undo 'em. As for the trees it was a case of sun had set behind hills and "oh just one more battery will be alright" about half a mile away near a darkening wood I suddenly couldn't see the Cub's attitude at all!!!! A thirty foot tree could though and reached out and grabbed it I discovered after searching with a few mates in the gloom. Had to rest there overnight to be retrieved next day with 5 poles taped together. :-)

That one more battery always hurts, doesn't it? The long armed variety of tree doesn't help, either I didn't realise you came across it second hand, must've been a good deal - but I'm shocked that the screws can be that tight without damaging the foam, when I assembled mine I was paranoid of breaking it. As always, all's well that ends well.

Thanks too, hg. A friend in the flying club recommended something similar on eBay and I've ordered some. I was thinking of a bead of silicon might do the trick. I don't buy from Amazon any more as they avoid paying UK Taxes and treat their workers like sh**.

They do make very small nylon hinges that you can glue into that narrow foam and then glue them in place to hold on the Rudder and the Fin Good devices but you might have problems with the Cub. It's a plastic covered foam. A lot of the strength is in the 'sandwich'. Slicing the plastic and inserting+gluing the hinges might work fine, or not. Never tried it on the Cub so not sure.

The plane in question is a SportCub, so its carbon reinforced foam. The hinges should be fine.

I do not think it would matter either way much
would depend on what glue you use mostly, I would think.....
